Amsoil Tranny Fluid?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0L 4L80E. I am planning on doing a tranny flush and I was planning on going with the Amsoil Synthetic Tranny Fluid because we could pretty cold temps up here down to -40C. Well actually the last three weeks have been at -30C steady. Anyways just wondering if anyone has run the oil and what the think or if there might be any problems? Anyways any advice would be great thanks?

Works great so far. I flushed my GM fluid out at 140,000 with amsoil ATF and it works great, especially in the cold.

I first used it back in 1980 in a Chevy Custom Van. I currently have it in my 2005 CTS and my 2008 GMC. I also have a 1993 Chevy Lumina 3.1L sedan that has had the Amsoil ATF in it since 1994. I dropped that pan in 2005 and changed out the filter, there was no sediment at all in the pan, nothing. The shop thought I had changed it out before several times as these trans are notorious for problems but it had been in there for about 85,000 miles and never a hiccup with the trans. We did not even change the oem filter back in 94 because it had less than 10,000 miles and was clean inside.

I am also thinking about switching to Amsoil...I was concerned because the new trannys require the new Dexron VI....Amsoil is a "universal" trans fluid. My experience in the past says that anything that is "universal" does a very mediocre job on anything , but does nothing very well....I dunno. Glad to hear the positive responses....still thinking!!!

Dave, if you have questions about AMSOIL, contact Black02Silverado (Nick), he'll answer any & all questions you have

The latest incarnation of Amsoil's (ATF) meets/exceeds the Dex2,3 & 6 requirements. No worries.

AMSOIL ATF would work great for the cold weather. AMSOIL ATF offers twice the cold temperature fluidity required by current automatic transmission fluid specifications.

As you can see from what is stated above it does great.

I have exchanged the fluid in several of my customers vehicles. You can follow these procedures to exchanging your fluid. Works great and is easy to do, not to mention saves on having it done by someone else.

If you have any questions just let me know. :D

Do you need a limited slip additive for the rear end? what Amsoil synthetic oil for the transfer case, mine is the push button 4x4 but not the autotrac 4x4 like the half ton pickups?

Posted

Not in a truck. Trucks use a G80 Locking rear differential and require no additional additives. Limited slip differential are normally installed in cars and AWD vehicles.

Use ATF in the Transfer Case.

Here I copied this from the Amsoil Production Selection Lookup

No, you do not have a limited slip differential. It is a mechanically locking differential and you do not need to add any additives.

If you have an Allison transmission in your truck and you want to use AMSOIL in it then you are buying Transynd.

AMSOIL's ATF for the transfer case and the Allison Transmission. Elcamino pretty much covered it all in his post.

No additive needed but even if it was AMSOIL's gear oil already has it in it. So you would be covered either way.
