New here. I found this site searching internet about how to fix a burnt out light in instrument cluster w/o buying the whole new cluster from dealer.

 

Since the original post, radio shack is about kaput and I can't get a 12V 50mA incandescent bulb from them.

 

I found a 12V 40mA or 14V 100mA bulb from digikey. Would any of these work as a replacement? Would 40mA bulb burn out prematurely? The 14V bulb run dim?

 

If I did go LED looks like some of these are now being made with the resistor in them and they are 12V. Would either of these be a suitable replacement (3rd or 4th down). Would the dimmer switch still work?

The best 12-14 volt LED's now available are from GM Gauge Repair. They sell them in their eBay store. They have separate kits with instructions, the cube LED's and polarity diagram with instructions.5 separate kits are available: Speedo, steering wheel, climate control, Left dash kit and also the window switches kit. The cubes are awesome and spread the light in all directions evenly with no hot spots or dim spots.  https://www.ebay.com/str/gmgaugerepair

      Acceptably cheap tires?

      Looking at cheap tires for this project '95 Blazer. I'm seeing all sorts of brands I don't recognize. 235/75/15 are the size I'm after.   "Dirt cheap" (<$100/each) Starfire Solarus (AS or AT) Rocky Mountain HT2  Mohave HT Westlake SU318 H/T Laufenn G FIT Entry Level AS (yes, Entry Level is the name of the brand!)   "Somewhat cheap" (<$150/each but >$100) Kumho Solus TA51a Ironman (Les Schwab) Cooper Discoverer RT AT Hankook Kinergy ST (H735) Milestar Patagonia H/T Toyo Extensa AS II   The only one that stands out is the Cooper Discoverer in looks and actual brand recognition for me. $120/each. The buyer for this truck will probably want a visual look of not a completely smooth car/highway tire and this one has slightly blockier tread.   Starfire is supposedly a sub-brand of Cooper. Mohave is a house brand of Discount Tire. The spelling bugs me, I've always known it as Mojave. Kumho, the name, still makes me giggle.   If I was selling it tomorrow, I'd probably go with anything in the Dirt Cheap category. But I may drive this around through the fall and my mind would be ruined knowing I'm rolling around on "Laufenn" or "Entry Level" tires, name alone.   In a world where *most* tires are now offshore-produced, is one low-buck tire much better than another?

      Is your l8t engine bay super dusty?

      Most vehicles have engine covers. The cooling fan’s are below the cover. That probably doesn’t help. I cleaned collector car engines. The rest not so much since the last one protested by missing for a few days drying out.

      Point of clarification on this graph. It is the life of the FLUID not the Transmission being graphed. Compare to his comments below the graph. Get it to the top of the graph and you can kill one in an afternoon.

      Did all this valve cover work slow the oil consumption?
