The wax is what protects the finish after you polish it to a good shine. Polish is generally only used on finiishes that are damaged, scratched, or dull. Otherwise a good cleaner/wax does the job nicely in one step.

Wax on.

Wax off.

Good question. Once in the spring and once in the fall, I do the clay bar thing followed by one coat of Liquid Glass polish, then 2 coats of Meguires NTX wax. The rest of the time I will just do one coat of wax to keep the shine.

Cleaner wax typically has some paint cleaners, some polish, and wax. So it is sort of a 3 in 1. Carnuba wax is just that.....wax.

excellent plan. Every spring I use meguiars paint cleaner to get any salt residue off the paint, then follow up with a nice polish and nxt tech wax.

You might also try Meguiar's NXT 2.0 - the new version supposedly lasts longer than the original.

I'm just waiting for a semi-nice day on a weekend so I can buff out all the swirls and holograms on my black truck, polish with Meguiar's #80 and finish off with NXT 2.0.
