Meguire's Nxt Gen Wax?

I just used some of the NXT Gen wax from Meguire's on my truck. Looks great. Not difficult to use. But I hate waxing and was wondering how long this stuff lasts. I'm looking for a long protection product.

Looks great! Love that red, with the wax it has a nice depth to it. :)

When I bought the truck a month ago, it was already 10 months old and had crud in the paint. I tried to wax it but ran into the stuck-in crud and stopped. So, I took it to a detailing shop and had them clay and buff it. It came back smooth as glass. I wasn't sure what kind of wax they use so I decided to wax it with something I thought might be pretty durable.

I have used the NXT wax in the past, and I liked it. Its not a very good cleaner wax, but I guess that's why Meguire's make all the various step waxes. I think it held up well, but my vehicle was garage kept and wasn't driven a lot. I think the key is how much weather your vehicle will see. If you store your vehicle outside and drive it everyday, I would wax every 3 months or at least every 6 months.

Unfortunately, I have to keep my truck outside in the SoCal poluted air. When I worked at LAX, my 74 Z28 used to get covered in jet fuel from the planes coming it at flight idle. The air quality has gotten better over the last 30 yrs by a bunch and I don't work at LAX now. During workdays, my truck is in a parking structure garage. But there's still some crud that settles in the paint from setting out at nights/weekends.

If you know of a better, longer lasting wax/protectant, I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks

Chuck

I have been using the NTX wax for about a year now, and I like it. How long it lasts depends on where you part and drive it, and the environment the truck is driven in. I am nowhere near a necular fallout zone, and our city does not have enough inductries for acid rain, so I typically get a month or so of good water beading and depth shine.

Really? Only a month? Mine is kept outside, and my truck will bead water for 3 or 4 months before a recoat. I would suggest to anyone, if they had the spare 10 minutes or so to use Meguires ultimate quick detailer. It cleans any contaminates, dust, and pollen (big problem where I live) and gives the paint a nice wet look, and actually adds protection on top of your wax! I love the stuff.

One month protection is about as good as an old 70s era cheap wax, around here at least. I'm really hoping for something like 3 to 4 months or more. Raindance wax used to get about 4-6 months of water beading on cars around here back in the 80s. Realizing environmental conditions play a big part in protection longevity, still, air polution was worse around here back then.

If duration is what you are most concerned about, I would try a paint sealant. Try Wolfgang Paint Sealant 3.0 from Autogeek.net. Paint Sealants typically provide longer protection than a wax. Autogeek.net has a great forum and is a wealth of information on paint care.

I use rainx spray on wax. You can use it wet or dry.Spray it on and wipe it off. I do want to put a good old hand wax job on it though.
