2003 Silverado Bose Replacement......

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado with an OEM CD, Cass, BOSE system, and I want to be able to play my iPod in the truck. I don't need to control the iPod with the head. To get a replacement, I have to get some special modual so that the door chimes and instument cluster will work. ($!!)

 

My question: Can I replace the 2003 OEM with a newer ('05, '06 etc) that has an aux input on the front, and be done with it. I figure that I can pick one up at the salvage yard for less than the combined cost of a new head unit, the modual, and other shop supplies.

 

Any ideas?
