Is This Worth My Time?

Saw this on Craigslist the other day. Doesn't seem too bad for a first truck. I'd just have to take off the window moulding things because I can't stand them, and toss the bed cover for the summer because I regularly haul mowers and things of that nature. They're asking almost $13,000 for it with 83,051 miles on the clock. I'm going to see if they'll go $11,000 with TTL out the door. Carfax says it's a 1 owner vehicle, and no problems reported, but we all know that Carfax only knows as much as it's told. Opinions?

Pretty nice looking ride. A lot of factory options that my 2005 didn't have. Other options like spray-in bedliner cost a bit too even though that stuff doesn't come into the resale equation. That battery needle is sure slammed over towards 19V. Looks a bit unusual. Don't know whether that means the battery or alternator isn't doing so well.

Yea it has a few nice options that I liked. I did notice the battery needle as well, and would definitely look into that in person.

Price is high considering the mileage and what you can get a new truck for these days....

I agree that it would make more economical sense to buy a new truck that has everything I want for $24,000. However, I absolutely will not finance a vehicle, much less my first one. The idea of owing money to anyone for anything bothers me. Further more, I'm 17 and don't exactly have golden credit yet. Not to mention the leverage you gain when you walk into a dealership and offer to cut the check right then and there.

It's a nice truck, the price is high for the mileage though. I think in today's truck market you could do better or just beat them down on the price. If have that much cash to throw down, spend a little more and finance a couple grand. Try to find a leftover new 08, then you'll have a brand new truck and it won't cost that much more than what they are asking for that one. It will help you build your credit and you'll have a lower mileage truck. Eventually someday you WILL have to owe money for something for either a house or some other big purchase. Don't be afraid of a little bit of financing. If you never owe any money, you'll never build credit.

That's true. If i threw down the 11 grand I wanted to spend, and financed another 10 grand or so I could have a much nicer ride. We'll see.

That sounds like an idea to me! Either way, talk them down. The truck looks great.

Speaking of great looking trucks... You or Scott lookin' to sell your trucks cheap? Lol

Nice lookin' truck! That's exactly what I'm looking for. Don't worry, I won't be calling - wrong side of the border. You can definitely talk him down in price though... Good luck with whatever you choose.

I was thinking the same thing and I know where that dealer is too! Why do you think I'm trying to talk you out of it?

Weather you decide to go new or with that one, beat them down on the price! It's a buyers market.

That's the first thing I did when I bought my truck was to remove the "window molding things", remove the canopy, and remove the add-on running boards.

I don't like canopies because I need to haul stuff and throw it in the bed. Also I like to see what I am about to back into!

And I drive in the woods / on farm pastures frequently and the running boards looked like one more thing for bushes and tree branches to get stuck on.

Truck looks good except the price. Similar Chevy's are going for $8-9.5K here with that mileage and condition.

Yea, it always seems like prices are a little higher around here. I might shoot over there one day next week and walk in there being prepared to walk right back out.
