had a quick question, anyone here know if a trailblazer ss's 4L70 tranny would fit a 5.3 silverado? its a 06. seemed like a better idea then building up my 4L60 and not going over kill with the 4l80. was just wondering. thx guys.

ahh ok, anyone else ever thought of this? think it would be a good idea?

As long as you are doing it, I would build the 4L70E up too.

yea i do plan on building it as well, shift kit along with other things, you know if the vette servo mod would work on this tranny to?

Yep, same one as the 4L60E uses.

The only differences (that I know of) between the 60 and the 70 is the 70 has 5 planet gears and uses a few more hardened components. Otherwise they are the same.

yea and thats one reason why thats the transmission i wanna use, much heavier duty then the 4l60 but not as bulky as 4l80, plus i plan on doing quirt a bit to that silverado so its gonna need a strong tranny hehe.

I wouldn't say "much".... Slightly is probably more accurate.

well heres something ive been wondering, how different would the power band be with the 4L60 and the 4L70

They are geared the same, so your power band should basically be the same. I have not ever heard that one vs the other takes more horse power to turn.

It anything, I would expect acceleration to be possibly a little better, due to the shift kit you are planning on putting in it.

If you are after a nice balance of "beef" and performance (low parasitic losses), then building a 4L70E is the way to go. But many people choose to live with the additional parasitic losses of a 4L80E and just put one of those in. They are rock solid trannies and it's definitely the cheaper way to go to get a very beefy tranny.

+1. Shaggy as I said in my PM from this morning, the 4l80 swap is by no means a direct swap but it's not 'hard'..nothing a beginner should get into due to the cutting/welding/wiring and the converter/flywheel issue that I'm not even 100% sure about because it seems no one does the same thing when they swap. If you are capable of doing this and experimenting underneath your truck then the 4l80 swap can be cheaper than a built 4l6x/7x in both the short and long term. It really depends on your goals and power levels. If your planning on making over 500rwhp/rwtq I'd skip a 4l6x/4l7x. There are guys with them making much more power and they hold, but those are $3000+ transmissions and even those aren't guaranteed. I have a $300 4l80 with a shift kit and it's going to hold 600+rwhp easily, but I've gotta get a torque converter, flywheel, wiring harnesses, get my drive shaft shortened, retuned, hack up my cross member, and other crap. But in the end the extra work is going to save a few grand.

So as said, what power levels are you looking to make in the future and are you willing to deal with a 4l80 swap?

As you can see there are small differences in all their swaps. And don't forget it's the internet.

This is what built 4l6x/4l70's cost. It's a very reputable shop. The owner of this shop has said himself that in trucks his strongest 4l60 is more than likely at it's limit @ 500rwhp/rwtq.

yea and thx for the help with that bro, and im gonna have to go with the 4L80 since with all the mods im looking at ill put putting out over 500rwhp

This is the way I look at it: If your going to be racing often or heavy into the throttle a lot, how many times do you potentially want to drop a transmission to either have it rebuilt or buy a new one? Myself I race somewhat often and I don't want to mess with the transmission anymore than I have to...plus it's my daily driver, so I'm getting something that will take a lot of abuse and be worry free about it.
