I copied and pasted this from Jayski's website. I'll never be able to root for a Penske car again, in any racing series!

 

Locked out and released? Rumor has it that there have been more job cuts with the #12 team at Penske Racing. The team used to employ around 60 people, but roughly 40 were let go when Penske decided to cut back from three Winston Cup teams to two. Word is that some of the remaining 20 were given the pink slip on Wednesday morning. The 20 employees had gone over to the #2 shop to hear the announcement that Robin Pemberton was leaving as Rusty Wallace’s crew chief; and when they returned, the locks had been changed on the #12 shop. Some received new keys, and some didn't. More cuts at Penske may be coming soon.(NASCAR.com Buzz)(12-6-2001)

Just like any other boss in any other line of work....

 

I like Rusty Wallace  and Ryan Newmann, but Roger Penske is a piece of work.

 

I thought less of him when he threew out the 12 team, and even less when he ditched the series that he helped create, for the rival series.

Mobil Not Happy? hearing Mobil might not be coming back to Penske at all as an associate sponsor as they were not happy with the team going away the way it did and might do just a very small associate sponsorship now if at all and do not have a contract signed(12-11-2001)

Wouldn't surprise me. I doubt Mobil cared for dumping Jeremy Mayfield, even before Mike Wallace and the team got the boot. With Mayfield, they won 3 races, had a fan base. My wife is a big Mayfield fan. She's got a Mayfield shrine around her desk at work, and most of it has Mobil 1 on it. She's actually happy cause she gets to start over with all new Mayfield crap. If there is anyone else like her, Mobil can't be happy their name won't be on the souvenirs.
