So the 4 way switch finnaly died in my suburban (im too cheap to spend the 232.99) so the question is should I rewire just the switch with a toggle or should I bypass the combo flasher and put in a seperate flasher also??????

A replacement from a boneyard would be quite inexpensive. That would be my next move.

That switch broke on my '95 not long after I got it. I didn't have the cash to buy a new one at first. That thing absolutely drove me crazy trying to bypass/duct tape the button down to keep the flashers off. I finally just said to hell with it and bought it new. Back then it cost me $300, back before the internet was booming. Just from experience I would bite it off and get a new one.

I think autozone sells a standardized replacement switch for the steering column...I had to replace it in my 80 GMC that had the steering column out of a 93 Silverado.
