Service 4wd Light

I jst bought a 2005 Crew Cab SLT Z71 in late Janurary 2009. Its been in 4wd 2 times since Ive owned it. The service 4wd light first came on about a week ago i shut the engine off the light went off. Put it into 4wd tonite it went into it and came out jst fine. Well i get about a mile down the road the light comes on i turn the off it comes back on again ab 5 miles when i pull into my home i have a buddy that has a code reader. Going to see if he can look at it tomorrow. I am accepting any opinions on wat to do?

Replace the 4 wheel drive switch

Probably the issue, but the code will tell for sure.

yea but when it is the 4wd switch, the code will not pop up

It does sound like the dash switch is the most common problem. I'll just throw this out there though, in the case of my '05 Tahoe the problem was the encoder motor sensor on the transfer case.
