More Bad News For Gm

I work for the Provincial Government, Ministry of Forests, here in BC and was just informed this week that all though GM won the 2009/10 contract to supply the government with cars and trucks, it will not be able to fullfill that order due to no vehicles being available now or in the future. Most of the trucks were 1500 crew cab WT's, with a few extra cabs where needed. They stated that they cannot full fill the order and have had to recinde the contract.

Instead we will be getting Subaru Imprezna's for our cars and for our trucks.........2009 Ford F-150's in a mixture of CC and extra cabs :D:thumbs: .

We have been running a mixture of Dodge , Ford and Chev/GMC (1/2 and 3/4 ton)trucks in the Forest Service. Since 2001, they have been keeping track of avg. repairs/year/vehicle make. Dodge cost ~$2800/year to maintain, Ford ~$2100 and Chev/GMC ~$1700. These are trucks that spend ~85% of there time on logging roads, sometimes driven with the attitude of "drive it like you stole it".

It will be interesting to see how the new Ford holds up. The 07 and 08 Chev 1500 have been great so far.....but we will have to wait and see how the Fords are.

Cheers

Why the hell couldn't GM fill that order? They're just killing themselves.....

:D This is total BS. GM need's to get their head out of their asses, and find a remedy for the problem.

how I see things from several thousand miles away from the US... The goverment has already bailed out ford. I have spent 13 months in Afgainistan, 15 months in Iraq, and on my 7th month of a nother tour in Iraq... the other day while I was on the bus to go to the gym I counted 160 Ford F 150/250's all crew cabs 4x4's on one road parked. Today I had some down time and got board comming back from chow and counted all the non tactical trucks in the parking lot. There were 237 Fords to the 54 GM's. I think the government could bail out GM just by giving them some of the contracts over here! Its really crazy how many ntv's KBR has over here and they are mostly Fords through government contracts. Sorry this really bothers me mostly bc I have to walk everywhere or catch a bus but there are millions of dollars just in pick up trucks and suv's over here and they cannot spread the wealth the save another American company!

I agree, I think they should be able to support purchases especially for the gov`t, even if they have to sacrafice and throw them a few VMAXs , or LTZ CCs just to keep there qoute :D

GM said it was loosing money selling to fleets, rental cars and the like.

The problem is GM can't fill orders, not that they are not getting the government orders. Ford can fill the orders so they are getting the contracts. GM's current issue is the suppliers are not filling orders because of the BK threat. Once GM files BK, any order filled before that date is a pre filing obligation & the court will decide what bills get paid. It will not be the suppliers first. Put yourself in a supplier’s seat. Would you sell parts "net 30 days" to GM right now knowing if they file BK you won't get paid?

WON! I rarely agree with you... I feel it's only fair to admit it.

This time you are on target. Other than contractual obligations, I am certain that suppliers are slow to fill orders by GM at this point. There has to be a resolution soon or the company will simply dry up and blow away. Judging by what has been disclosed; the longer they wait to file chapter 11, the more likely they are to just close up and be liquidated.

I have decided to not buy my truck till they do something. and im sure that they will not be selling any trucks till they do something..

Its like this, there are people out there wanting to buy a truck or car from them but when its every damn day that you hear.." GM IS DOOMMMMMMMMED!" it makes people rethink what they are doing. And yes, CH 11 would be great... if they can get the UAW to conceed and all the suppliers. If they cant make that then they will just close up and then we would not have to worry about having any warrenties and such. I wish they would just have the gov't just buy the company, FIRE THE UAW and make unions illegal. Unions did their part in the 20's and 30's when there were no labor laws to protect the workers but now there are extravigant laws protecting us and there should be no way that someone can just sit at work and jack around and not get punished because they are part of a union while everyone else works their asses off. Im sorry for the harshness of this here post but i have been thinking about this all week because i really would love to buy a truck soon because i have been waiting for this day for like 6 years and have not been able to but now that i can, GM is being an idiot.

The way a few Senators have been talking you would think that already is the case. It sounds easy having the Govt take over the company, but I really don't see that happening...

mainly to make it illegal to have the UAW

That would be cool, they are bleeding three companys, rich in tradition and history to death!

I totaly agree that we have too many trucks over here and it will interesting to see what they do with them all when we start to pull out. I mean hell we have already started to sell our tactical trucks to the Iraqi government I am sure that they will find a way to sell all the non tactical trucks to them too. Here take all our Fords! A great way to keep these people hating us!

Our tax dollars at work! I guess it would have made too much sense for the Government to have sold them and apply the proceeds to the National Deficit!
