Well, I originally bought this 79 k10 chevy to sell. But, after getting it I liked it so much I decided to keep it. I will be doing a little body work this week and maybe even get some paint on it. I know I won't need the heater much longer but would like to have it in working order. The lines seem to be hooked up under the hood but, the switch doesn't seem to do anything. Where do you go about determining what the problem is?

Thanks,

Kyle

That truck should still have the valve inline in the heater hose that controls water flow right? If so, they were notorious for corroding up and sticking in whatever position they were in last. Other than that, I'd trace cables and make sure they are moving the flaps in the heater box under the dash... assuming that you can feel the hoses when the truck is hot and they are both warm?

I don't believe those vehicles had a water shutoff installed from factory. As Jim said, look into the cable system and diverter doors. You could very well have a plugged heater core. It's easy to check for that.
