Hello, I have the service message Service 4wd on my 2003 GMC Sierra Z71. I had the code read at my local garage. The code is C0321 Transfer Case Lock Circuit Malfunction. Any idea what this is?

I'm guessing you have the push button 4 wheel drive? Does the 4 wheel drive work? Sounds like the 4 wheel acutator in the transcase is stuck or not working.

Yes it is push button 4wd and it won't do anything. If I push any button it doesn't even try to come on. It won't even light up. If it is the actuator what am I looking at for cost.

The encoder motor sensor can be bad or worse the motor is gone. IIRC, your looking at $500 job to repair it, about 1/2 to replace the sensor.

If the switch won't even light up, the switch may be dead, which is a fairly common problem and an easy thing to replace. Might be worth trying that before getting into the more expensive things.

this happened to mine, i bought the encoder from the local dealer, cost me like $70, i removed the motor opened it up swapped them put it back in . works good no issues since

I just repaired the same issue on my '06 this weekend. My switch wouldn't light up at all, changed out the switch and still had the problem. Pulled and changed the encoder motor and now problem is solved. I'll give you the part numbers and you can check to see if they fit your model, Switch pn-15136039 ( $49.00), Encoder Motor Sensor pn-88962315 ($60.93). Ordered the parts from GMPartsdirect.com, they are a supporting vendor and can be found through a link right here on the site. Also try searching this site for this problem, I got all the info I needed right here. There's some pretty smart guys on here contributing. Good luck.

OK im new to this site i got 03 gmc 2500 and it has the C0321 ive changed the motor and the switch will stay lite up with 2wd light while motor pluged up but want do nothing and the service 4wd lite on since ive had it any help

the code has to diagnosed !!! you thru parts at the truck and got burned bad ,

 

dont do that ,,,take it in to a technician that can provide you with an estimate

 

forums + electrical problems = bigger problems
