Gmpp Air Intake On 2009 6.0 Trucks

Hello everyone, this is my first thread on your site. I wanted to share something I discovered this morning and posted on another site. I am about to take delivery of a 2009 Chevy Crew Cab 1500 with the 6.0 engine. When I agreed to terms with them last week I asked if I could get a discounted price on a few of the GMPP parts and they agreed. I wanted the single sided touring exhaust and the air intake. They called back the next day said the exhaust wouldnt work it was not for the truck. I know thats simply due to the 6.0 going out the back and the exhaust that would replace it goes out the side.

The Air Intake was supposed to work. They ordered it and insisted they would put it on so I didnt take the truck home. I got a call yesterday stating it will not work. They have had my truck since Thursday now. I called to speak to the tech and the parts rep directly to get to the bottom of it.

IF you have a 2009 with the 6.0 on a 1500 the MAF is now an integral part of the tubing and it can not be swapped over. They do not have a fix. I wanted to share this so anyone else interested would know what they are up against and that it may not be a simple 30 minute bolt up job as anticipated. I do think it may be possible to remove the MAF and custom fit it to the tubing on the new intake but I would rather wait for a part to be built that fits.

Hope someone finds this helpful.

Well that sux. Are they gonna do anything to compensate you for the lack of truck for the past week or so?

BTW, welcome to the forum

Hmm.......Interesting,I did not know that.

Me neither, I honestly thought they were doing the same stupid game they did with the exhaust. If the "books" doesnt have it listed it doesnt fit thing. I wanted to speak to the tech this time. I did some digging on the aftermarket sites last night. They do not have anything for the 2009 version only 2008. I thought it was just the lack of getting the site up to date for AFE but when I went to the others like K&N and Volant it seems none of them have it.

No clue why GM would find the R&D $'s to perform this modification that cuts off the GMPP world and the dealer selling add ons. Even if they made a new one for the truck now they have 2 parts to stock versus 1.

The compensation is simple. The truck was supposed to be ready tomorrow. The sales person that told me it was a "no-go" last night is off today and they have helped me through the process. I want the truck now..I wanted it when I took care of all the details last week. I asked them to take care of getting things together for me today so I can pick it up this evening.

No real compensation. I did ask to have them note the issue so no one else gets misled. I do understand that its not the techs fault but in general if its a GMPP part there was a problem in communication that allows them to even say it fits.

mmm....good to know.

Does anyone have a pic of the intake? Its kind of sh!tty, and real expensive, if you need to replace the intake tube for a repair.

I just looked in the parts catalog,Sure enough the MAF sensor is now mounted into the upper part of the air cleaner housing. :)

I will get a photo of it this weekend when I take some of the truck.

I wonder if any of the aftermarket companies will ever even bother with an intake for the truck after this move. I can see them not bothering at all since it would require a new MAF be integrated with the kit.

I don't know,I think they'd just make a provision for it,Basically they would have you take it off your stock housing and install it on the new one.

I read where someone cut the MAF off the tube and it worked with the intake. I'd bet GM did this to stop people from using aftermarket air intake kits.

Makes sense,I don't think it would be too hard to do,The MAF sensor just bolts into the upper air cleaner housing.

I am sure that stopping aftermarket parts could be a motive but it also hurts there own GMPP division. If they are in development of a new part for the GMPP intake that will allow removal of the MAF and bolting it to the new one its a great idea to cut off some of the competition.

I can into a similar issues with 5.3 on my 09 Tahoe. Aftermarket CAI (GMPP or otherwise), and aftermarket catbacks are not available.

I assume you are in the same situation with your 2009 with the 5.3?? I guess they will address the issues but who knows. I am just shocked that just a few years into something they make a change and the aftermarket world isnt on top of it. It usually takes some time to get the stuff out to the public when they are first introduced as new models.

When I made a few changes to my 6.6 Duramax I had to wait a few months since it was the LBZ motor and the parts I wanted were not ready. They did have some products though.
