Dennis Green buys part of NASCAR team

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Former Vikings coach Dennis Green has formed a partnership with the owner of a group that hopes to field a NASCAR team and start racing in May.

Green and Darwin Oordt, owner of the Ford Taurus Galaxy Motorsports Winston Cup team, made the partnership public Thursday. Their company will be called Denny Green Racing, LLC.

The team did not say who would drive for them, and it's not clear if it has sponsors.

``I have always had a passion for NASCAR the planning, the strategies, the pure adrenalin rush of having 750 horsepower engines and great athletes racing around the track, bumper to bumper, lap after lap,'' Green said.

``I know that Darwin and I will work hard together to secure the best sponsors, talent and equipment to insure consistency and excellence both on and off the track.''

This will be Green's second new venture since being forced out as coach and general manager of the Minnesota Vikings. He also plans to appear on a weekly TV program about fishing.

Sorry, but I don't see this being nearly as successful as Joe Gibbs. I think it's gonna be more like Dan Marino's venture into NASCAR. What do you guys think?

I think that in order to buy a team you should have to be able to fit in the car.

Unfortunately it looks like we may have this fatso as the coach of the Raiders now. With Gruden already saying he's not comingback after next year, Davis may trade him to Tampa for draft picks and hire Green. I hope not.

Never was real impressed w/Green.......did Tampa screw themselves or what? Parcells...yeah right...one thing about the Bucs...they are a second rate organization..the ONLY one responsible for bringing them out of the basement was Dungy...look at their team history......just laughable...I have no doubt they are headed back to where they came from......sorry....this was about NASCAR wasnt it?!?!?!

Well, it was but while we're on the subject.....if they get Gruden I think they're going nowhere but up. Anybody else, I might agree with you though.
