How To Fit Exhaust

I am looking at buying a new exhaust system from Summit Racing. I tried searching for how to fit an exhaust system together but found nothing. I am planning to buy a kit that has a 3" diameter intermediate pipe and 2.250" tailpipe diameter. My question is this: which should I purchase, a muffler that has a 3.00" inlet and 2.250" outlet or one that has a 2.750" inlet and a 2.500" outlet?

Thanks.

That's the problem with buying on-line.... If you mean intermediate pipe as the pipe from the cat to the muffler, I would stick with 3". From the muffler, if you are going to duel outlets, then I believe you will need the 2.25's. If you are doing a single (that's what I did) then I would stick with the 3". It is much simpler to do it yourself with parts from the local parts house, then you can tell if it fits or what you need. When I did the 92 with a after-cat flowmaster knock-off, it was $175 at a local muffler shop, done in 1 hour. --Priceless....

By the way, can you weld or know someone who can do so for you?

Yes, I have access to a welder. I guess in my mind a 3" intermediate pipe won't fit into a 3" muffler inlet because they are the same size. Correct, by intermediate pipe I mean the one from the cat to the muffler.

Unless the intermediate pipe is a 3" O.D. and the muffler is a 3" I.D.
