Greetings to all. I am new here and have a new to me truck

100_0037.jpg

it is a 2001 2500HD duramax and has 13k miles. was owned by a friend and his health is going bad so one thing to another and so I now have a very nice truck

I like to spend most of my time on one of my motorcycles. Any way I have some questions and have searched and did not find an answer

there are 2 power plugs for accessories and in the manual it just says use the power plugs for cell phones computers ect. my question is why are they both hot all the time? I plug my GPS in but when I shut the truck off the acc plugs and the lighter stay hot; so the gps does not shut down. is this normal

it has an am/fm/cd factory radio. I would like to hook up my ipod and have seen here there are several adapters I can get. my question is. some newer models have a acc jack port where you could plug in a mini plug for an ipod. would it be possable to buy a later model radio that would have this jack and if so would it interchange with my radio?

I miss having outside temp, and see in the manual that it could have come with a rear view mirror that would have out door temp. is this something I could add or would it have to go to the dealer for this

thanks Don

Welcome! Nice truck.

And to answer one of your questions, yes, the power plugs to stay hot. Guess it really depends on what you have plugged in whether you like this option or not. For me, I like them staying on. Keeps the ipod and fm transmitter from having to be turned back on all the time....and they don't draw much power anyways.

Hey there and welcome to GM Trucks!

Yes, that is normal that the power outlets stay hot when the truck is off. For the radio you could go to an aftermarket one, but I doubt a newer model with the aux jack would work.
