? On Exterior Durability And Rusting On Gmt-900

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 09 2500HD this week. Just wanted to hear some thoughts on how the paint, chrome pieces, plastics have been holding up on the exterior of these new GMT-900 trucks. Also would like to hear if anyone has developed any rust areas or any others issues related to paint, rusting etc. etc.

So far so good for me...knock on wood... but the only problem I have had is that the frame coating is just "wax" and when it rubs or scrapes off it will rust lightly. I wish I could take off the coating and just put a coating on the frame that will stay.

I would say go for it. We will not really know if they will rust out until their later years.

I had the under carriage coated with that black rubberized stuff when I bought the truck mostly as a preventative measure. The sheet metal does not seem as thick as it used to be, and if I can extend the life of the wheel wells, then so be it.

If you look underneath and behind the rockers and wheel wells, there are plastic knockouts for access. I'm thinking of spraying some oil into those areas once a year. I know from doing car restorations that the areas of a car coated with grease and oil stay shiny bright metal while surrounding areas rot right through.

I don't think it's any better or worse than previous years. My truck still looks good underneath after almost 2 years.

I bought my 07 a few months ago. The first time I crawled underneath her I was very surprised and disappointed to find the frame to be pretty rusty. Body looks good though. I was thinking that I would put some of that 'fluid film' stuff on it every year before winter hits from now on.
