Audio System

I'm redoing how I've installed some of the audio equipment in my truck. As a recap, I have Infinity Reference 6022i's installed in all the doors. They are powered by an Alpine MRP-F300, using the rear speakers as a speaker level input for both front and rear channels. (This keeps my amplifier from receiving the Onstar, turn signal and warning chime, then amplifying them and playing them really loud.) I ran new speaker wire to the speakers from the amp, so the factory speaker wire is just taped up in the doors now. I also put in my old 10" subs and and amp with custom box that I slapped together. It gets input from the Alpine preamp out. I am also using a Peripheral PX-AMG the PH-GM1 harness for iPod input, and a Metra GMOS-LAN-01, to intercept the Onstar, turn signal and warning chimes, then send them to the front speakers indpendent of the amp; which does not work... It also manages to create a R.A.P. signal for the amplifier turn on. The Metra harness is tapped in to to the Peripheral harness so no modifications to the factory harness. All using the factory head unit...

The end result is great music, especially via CD. The Peripheral doesn't play 100% consistent sound, but I think it is a bad unit, because it hasn't always done this. The Metra is junk, only think it does is turn the amplifiers on, everything else is botched, which means that I have no Onstar, signals or warning chimes, so I'm rethinking some things.

First of all, I am going to use the Metra for the only think it is good at, amp turn on. Second since I am not sending the headunits front speaker channel to anything with the Onstar, turn signals and warning chimes, I will add a speaker under the dash strictly for that, it will play unamplified music, Onstar, signals, and warning chimes. While the rear channel will be sent to the amp and subsequently all the 'regular' speakers.

On a side note, I was experimenting with some items, and accidently sent an amplified speaker signal back to the head unit and it didn't like it very much, it got angry, and vented a little (read, lot) smoke, :wtf: so that is getting fixed too.

...my bad... :D

Thanks for the update..

Personally, I'm getting the HKD-837 Whatchamacallit coupled to the HLKJD-93KHD81 Humdinger. Should sound good considering the 83-HLK-771 is already installed.

I've got everything sort of back together, again...

...since I am not sending the headunits front speaker channel to anything with the Onstar, turn signals and warning chimes, I will add a speaker under the dash strictly for that, it will play unamplified music, Onstar, signals, and warning chimes. This works great! I have had everything 95% hooked up the way I want and it works wonderfully. ONstart plays correctly, turn signals, warning chimes, etc. With the regular speakers playing the amplified music, you can't even hear the speaker under the dash, which I bought at Autozone for 12$. It fits nicely behind the lower dash panel, directly below the square cubby.

At this point all I need is a R.A.P. signal for amp turn on. I gave up on the Metra completely. Now I'm looking at the Peripheral GMLNAV. Once its installed I'll post back.

So far so good. I'm very happy with the sound and function of every thing.

I've read that thread, but for some reason I couldn't use that wire. If I recall, I didn't have that plug and subsequent wire and that pin was dead on my truck too. I'd have to double check all that though.

Alright just thought I'd help. I also saw where you were looking for the "6 blunt cut wires" from the electrical schematic in another thread (right before I was going to suggest using those :rollin:) Did you ever find these wires?

Nope, but I'm in hot pursuit.

***EDIT*** I appreciate any help I can get! :rollin:

Good news to report.

Everything is in and working great. After double checking the yellow wire in the blue green plug in the posts above, I found that it WILL work as a 12 volt source with RAP! Good for functionality, bad for the now two useless parts I have.

Final rundown of what I'm using and how its working.

-New factory Headunit, because my old one got messed up (See above), works like new.

-Alpine amplifier for door speakers, uses rear speaker channel as speaker level input for front and rear channels.

-Infinity reference speakers in all four doors, with new speaker wire from Alpine amplifier.

-Remove factory tweeters in A-pillar. They added a lot to the music, but were to bright and made it impossible to get the equalizer/music tuned to sound the way I wanted it to.

-Kenwood amplifier for subs (Old one from a previous system), uses pre amp RCCA outs off the Alpine amplifier for RCA inputs.

-Rockford Fosgate 10" subs (x2, from the same previous system)

-Custom subwoofer enclosure, no close up pictures, because my craftsmanship isn't the best. It works well, is a little low on air space on the passenger side, but its light weight and looks good enough for me. Holds amplifier and capacitor (sp) in the center.

-Peripheral media gateway, for iPod integration, finally, this one works great.

-No name speaker behind dash playing the abandoned front speaker channel off the factory head unit, provides a perfectly functioning Onstar, turn signals, and warning chimes.

Any questions?

Heres what I have and what is going to be put in:

4 Speakers: Alpine SPS 600

2 Amps: Alpine M500 (for sub) | Alpine F300 (speakers)

1 Sub: Alpine SWS 1043D

Subthump Enclosure.

I'm not replacing Head unit. I dont want to mess with Onstar and stuff. I should be okay right? just get the stock tweeters disconnected and everything installed...

Do i need anything? just going to have Best Buy install it, they should have all the wiring and stuff right?

Edit: Sigh, sorry to jack your thread. not a good mood and too lazy to start a new one / ive started a million threads and dont want to be annoying.

Dukers,

 Did you read the part about smoking my original head unit?

I recall your original audio thread but I thought you had decided what all you wanted to do. I'll try to answer your questions, but there are other posters more qualified. I can tell you what I did, how I did it, what didn't work, and how to get to everything...
