The Big Three

Im going to be working on building a box for 2 down-firing 10's and about an 800 watt amp. I had dimming lights on my last truck and I believe it was this problem. I want to do the Big 3 conversion before I get everything installed so I dont have to mess with it later down the road.

I did a few searches and couldn't come up with anything. Its a bigger + from the alt. to battery, bigger - to ground, and a bigger engine to ground right?

Here are a few box options for you if you don't wanna build your own. These guys make solid boxes. Have pics of one of there's in my 06 if you wanna see...

I haven't, but I need to. With all accy's on, and the volume turned up, mine will dim with every hit.

I wanted to try a good AGM battery first.

battery -> 250amp breaker -> alternator

250amp for 1/0

200amp for 2

Riggs, you forgot the engine to the chassis. Most of the grounds are to the chassis, so your best bet is to go straight to the chassis. The body is on rubber mounts to the frame, as is the engine for all intensive purposes. If you look at the stock engine ground, its going to the chassis, not the frame. As is most of your other grounds, if not all. Alternator whine in the speakers happens when two units are on different grounds, amp and head unit, etc. Hence why higher end RCA cables have a ground built into them and your higher end amps have a ground specifically for the RCA cables, so the amp and head unit are both share a similar ground. This is my understanding.

correct me if I am wrong here.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I would like a single 10" box for mine. I've got a single in my 2000, and I can't see needing more than one at all. Plus I'd prefer to be able to utilize some of the space under my back seat for other things (micro fiber towels, armourall, raincoat, etc..)

from my understanding with these boxes is that the dual 10" box actually acts as two single boxes with a partition between the two. My thought was to spend just a bit more money and get the dual box, then cut the top out of one side and then nail it to the bottom of the box where the sub goes. This way you have the single sub, a place to put the amp and your other things. Plus it looks seamless when the seats are down.
