My passenger front speaker needed replacing so I picked up a couple Sony Xplod's up on sale 49 bucks from 79 bucks. (not greatest but thought theyd be ok) anyways i got them installed but when i crank the music I hear a bit a fuzz in the background and its annoying because I never heard it before. Im just using the factory delco CD unit that came with the truck maybe thats the problem. Anyways I know nothing about sound systems so any advice would be awesome ! thanks! I also have a jenson amp sitting around but i havent bothered installing it yet.

Your stock speakers were probrably 8 ohm and the new speakers are 4 ohm and the radio just doesn't have enough power to push it.

Just a guess,

Your factory speakers are 4 ohm. I too recently replaced my speakers with Sony Xplodes, 6 1/2 in the front and 4x6 in the rear using the factory Delco unit. I have had no problems and the sound is quite good for the stock head unit.

How did you attach the factory wiring to the speakers? Did you cut the factory plug off and use the wire ends that came with the new speakers? How did you attach the wiring, with butt-connectors?

If so, I would suspect the wire connections. I've had problems with butt-connectors before so I avoid them when I can. What I did was solder my connections and use heat shrink on them.

You can try tugging on your wiring around the speakers, wiggling the wiring around, while the radio is on and see if the sound cuts out or the hum your hearing changes. If so, you can figure out what wire is not making good contact and try re-crimping the wire.

If you use a good quality crimper and butt connectors, you'll never have problems with them. I use butt connectors far more often than I use solder, and I never had a connection fail on me. You'll break the wire before you get one of my connections to come loose.

The fronts might be out of phase. GM radios do not react very well to this.

Make darn sure you have the positive and negative leads attached correctly. In a pinch you can simply swap the leads on one speaker and see how it sounds. If connected correctly they should sound about the same when you balance from left to right. If they are out of phase, the low end (bass) will drop out noticeably when the balance is centered and increase when it is all the way to one side.

Make any sense?

I used merrets to make the connection. Maybe Ill solder them up and see how that works. I have an amp I might install if i ever get a sub, so likely ill run new wire everywhere and ill make sure the connections are good. thanks for the help!
