Knock Sensor Replacement Done

Recommended Posts

So I replaced both knock sensors, and the sensor connectors this weekend.

I've only owned this truck for a few weeks, and have no previous experience with these Vortec motors, so it was a fairly involved job for me. I got it done though, no major hangups, just took some time.

When I was searching for info, I found about a hundred threads with discussion about this, but no pictures or anything, so I figured I would post some up just for the heck of it.

You can see the one sensor is pretty much destroyed from corrosion. No wonder it wasn't working.

Got it all back together and the truck fired right up after the fuel rails filled up. Runs great.

I wonder if my gas mileage, or performance will improve now that it's getting all the proper info from the sensors.

Nice pics.

I agree. Cool writeup.

How much did the sensors cost you?

Not much of a writup but pictures are worth a thousand words right?

I think the sensors were about $50 or so. I bought a bunch of stuff at the same time, so I'm not positive. They are not factory/dealer sensors.

The one thing I do remember though, is the new manifold gasket was $52.

Nice pics :) A little off topic, weren't the knock sensors moved on th gen iv engines? Are they harder to access?

I'm not sure what gen my truck is, but I think the earlier/older rigs had the knock sensors in the side of the block, and were much easier to access. Not sure about the newer ones. I'd hate to believe they would be any more difficult to get to than the ones under the whole intake assembly.

Your is GenIII, they switched to GenIV in the 07 full size trucks. They moved them to the outside of the block to make room in the V for the equipment needed for AFM. I just don't know where they moved them to. Guess I'll find out when that bridge needs crossed...
