Engine Vibration When Idle

Recommended Posts

the dealer don't want to admit the exsitance of the problem.. they only adjusted the spark plugs as per a campaign issued by GM and told this should fix it.

the vibration is still there and it's not constant.. it feels more of a repetitive rythm and I feel it the most when it's on Neutral

Please help! what should I do??????? dealer is not helping

If I understand your question right... It's likely just a characteristic of the V8 truck. V8s aren't totally balanced engines and have a signature lope especially at idle.

I have to disagree with this statement. While some older larger V8 blocks are not the smoothest idling engines out there, the 5.3 liter is actually quite smooth. At least the one in my truck is.

Maybe one of the coils over each plug is not firing properly.

They are pretty smooth but a V8 engine has a characteristic vibration signature. Manufacturers have tried to offset this by externally balancing them. If someone was not familiar with them, it might be misunderstood as a problem.

totally agree... but

my '95 5.7 tahoe didnt do that, neither my 1st engine on this truck. It only become noticeable after the dealer changed the engine assembly when the oil pump broke down

is it about tuning?

AHA!

Clues are what we needed. Now that I know you have some V8 experience, I'd bet on a damaged engine mount... or one that was not installed properly (which can happen if they are tightened prior to having the engine's weight fully on them). If this cropped up after the engine swap it has to be something they did during the install. Perhaps something in a bind or touching that should not be.
