Oem 20" Tire Recommendation

The POS Goodyear's that came on my truck with the OEM Chevy 20's are at the end of their life. My experience with the GY's is they rode great for the first 10K miles, but the past 20K miles have been harsh. I'm also unable to get two of them balanced.

I'm thinking about spending the money for the Michelin LTX's but don't want to rule out some others like the Terra Grabbers, etc. that look so great.

No money for a wheel up/down grade this time around unfortunately. I did cash in one the Bilstein shock upgrade through Kennedy Diesel.

Thanks,

Steve

Michelins would be the premium tire IMO. They are FANTASTIC for pavement driving. Having said that, they are jacking the prices so high it may not be worth the premium.

I was looking for a winter tire and put a set of Goodyear Fortera Triple Treads. They have the snowflake for winter. They were very good IMO. I only put about 10K on them but they are similar to the Michelins but a tad louder on the road. Can't speak to longevity yet and I am generally not a fan of Goodyear.

I put 3 sets of Michelin LTX M/S on my 01 Tahoe. I got minimum 75K out of them and they were outstanding. Like I said earlier, possibly not worth the price premium.

I had pretty good luck with the Falken Ziex S/TZ-04 tires. They rode good and tread life was good. Actually comes with a 50,000 mile warranty, which is decent for a "sport tire". I've had the Road Huggers before too, if your looking for inexpensive, they actually handle very well and tread life seemed good.

Here's the Falkens

I have 275-55-20 Pirelli Scorpion ATRs and they are excellent. 13,000 miles and very little wear. Quiet, smooth, and wonderful in the rain. Go look at the Tirerack.com ratings. They rank very well against the competition.

i have the terra grapplers on my 17 inch winter rims. not a bad tire. one was out of round. had to send it back to the manufacture.

for my 20s, once the good years are shot i will be getting cooper zeon ltz. check them out. they look pretty good and i hear good things about them on this board. tires.com has good prices on them and free shipping.

The 20" Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires that came on my truck were a joke for a 4X4. The owner's manual even says " If you have the optional 20" wheels and tires they are NOT FOR OFF-ROAD USE". They also each had 5 to 7 oz of weight per tire to balance them. I drove the truck from the dealer to the tire shop and had them install new BFG All Terrains 285/55R20. They road force balanced them and the most weight they took was 1.5 oz and one tire didn't need any! That is simply amazing for a heavy tire. They do ride stiffer than the Goodyears though.

I put the Michelin LTXs on my '08 Sierra and am very happy with them. When I first got the truck, the dealer made several attempts to balance the GY LS2s without any luck. My dealer was able to get GM to replace the tires with the Michelins. The change in the ride quality was dramatic, not to mention better wet-weather traction. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for all the reply's. It's a big decision with the premiums on 20" wheel sizes.

So far I've narrowed it down to the Yokahama Geolander, Bridgestone Revo's, and Mich LTX in order of price......decisions, decisions.....

I really like the Pirelli Scorpion ATRs in white letter on my blue NBS. I love White letter tires on a dark truck.

Do You have any rubbing issues with those BFG's? Since you took it straight from the dealer to the tire shop I presume everything is factory (no lift or level). I would like to have the BFG but am concerned about rubbing with the 285's. If I can't have BFG, I'll be gettin michelin ltx m/s...

Personal preference of course, but I like the Firestone Destination LE -or- Destination A/T for a bit more aggressive tread. Much more reasonably priced than the Michelin's, too, and very comparable to the Revo's IMO.

Please take pix of whatever new tires you get; I wanna' see what they look like mounted as I have the same rims.
