1993 Suburban Help!

Can someone please give me some advice on what could be wrong with my 93 Suburban. It is a 1500 5.7 liter and it has like no power and it will only run alittle while it coughs and sputters and to get it to go you have to flutter the gas pedal. (Recently it had felt like it had been losing power ) We changed the fuel filter and the fuel pumps sounds like it is working with the key on.

Thank you for replying....I have been told that they were removed. But that is what I had thought too. Is there anything else that acts like that?

Does it only sputter on acceleration? Try changing the fuel filter.

Do you use oil, checked for compression? When was the last time you did a tune up?How many miles on the ticker?

Being as this is an older vehicle...

If regular maintenance has not been done on this vehicle, I would check/replace all the things listed for regular service (per the mileage) in your owners manual or listed in a factory service manual.

Like air/fuel filters, PCV valve and associated tubing, spark plugs, spark plug wires, oxygen sensor, clean throttle body and IAC valve port, etc. (All regular maintenance items you have not already checked/replaced.)

Then check all vacuum tubes for leaks or cracked tubes which need to be replaced. Be sure everything is connected.

Check all engine electrical wires to be sure everything looks ok.

These things go a LONG way toward making an older vehicle run smooth as silk! If you don't keep up on this stuff, the vehicle will run worse and worse.

Then once that is done (or if you have already done this on a regular basis), use a factory fuel and emissions service manual and start checking things listed for the symptoms of your engine.

In my book it says to check the fuel system first, then the ignition system, then the exhaust system.
