Amp Install - 07 Nbs Ext Cab

I just pulled my back seat out (just the 2 seater, not the single). I know these are dumb questions, but I'm going to ask anyway. First, what's the correct term for the back wall? And what is this rubbery foam crap that covers it? Can I just cut it out where I need to?

I'm putting two amps in, and I really don't want to just mount them to the back wall. I see that you guys are putting plywood in there..but how do you mount the plywood? Am I still going to have holes in the back wall? I assume there's an advantage to doing it this way rather than directly onto the wall?

Like I said, I know they're dumb questions but I'm trying to learn.

Search on the forums. You can find quite a few people who have done this and used different methods to attach the plywood. I used liquid nail, but it has also come off. I know several guys have used self tapping screws. I am about to install my sub amp soon and will build a new amp rack and screw it in as well. I will probably use rubber washers behind the wood to minimize anything getting in around the screws.

I don't really know what that foam stuff is called either, but I just cut it away where I needed to. Check out the pic. Sorry for the glare. My camera was jacked up.

Yep, that's just about exactly what I want mine to look like. What did you use for your amp rack? That doesn't look like plywood. My big thing is I don't want holes between my cab and bed. I guess liquid nail is probably just about the only option.

I used 1/4 in. plywood and then painted it black. I didn't want holes either, but the seats really push on the amp, even as low as the amp is. I reached back there yesterday and realized it came off again. Not a big deal because it doesn't rattle, but will definitely fix it for good when I install my other amp.
