Annoying Door Chime

Since I bought my truck, I've noticed that that annoying door chime was gone. I never questioned it because I was happy. Well, the other day while screwing around doing dougnuts on a rock road (that's not important), my radio suddenly got way louder, and when I shut the truck off later that day I noticed the dam door chime was working. I didn't bother with it because my radio was working significantly better, and that was worth listening to the stupid chime. Well, when I started the truck up the next day, the dam chime was gone again, and the radio was back to being quieter. So far it's done this twice. I know people have been searching for a way to kill the chime for a while now, but I'm curious to know if anyone's done it. (I know it can be turned down via radio controls, but mine is completely gone) My truck found a way to disable it, but at the cost of about half the radio volume. Any ideas?

Sorry!! My chime doesn't work at all either, but I wish it did.Seems I forget(old fartitis)to remove the keys before locking the doors.I've used up my AAA calls now

If no one knows...

If you know how to read electrical diagrams or know someone who does, get a GM factory electrical diagram manual for your specific vehicle and learn how this operates.

It could be there is some sort of relay which switches the speakers to the chime and this relay has dirty contacts.

Or some other module which could be the cause of this.

Or perhaps a loose wire/connector somewhere.

You would need to look at the wiring diagrams and based on that, see what could cause this problem, then do some testing to find the problem. Perhaps use an ohm meter in the case of relay contacts. Or maybe try bypassing a relay or switching module. But you would need to be sure of what you were doing.

WELL D'UH....go do some doughnuts on a rock road!

I already did! That's why it's working! ...I wonder if that'll shut it off.... I'll report back in an hour.

i'd check the connections for the front speaker. i think the chime only comes through the front driver's speaker. might be time to get out the multimeter.

good luck

Nope! Everything's fine. Door chime still works like a champ though. Who would've guessed that going 60 down a rock road would make the ass end of a truck get all squirrely... I already took the Fluke Meter to the speaker and all the wires are putting out a constant voltage. And you are correct, the chime does only come through the driver's side door speaker.

Edit: I was a little worried about my G80 grenading on me. Sill works so I'll assume it's ok...
