so i wan to do a 6.0 swap or any other swap if you guys have some idea. it will be after my iraq trip. but i was thinkin the LQ9. what would be needed and the cost to do this. and i am very open to suggestions on other motors but if you hav an idea please include what will be needed

If you're going to add a 6.0 I would suggest getting a built 4L65E or a 4L70E to handle the horsepower and torque of a 6.0.

i had thought of that and it will be a later mod. any ideas on the cost to get it running changing just the engine. id imagine id need the engine and ecu. but would the top end from my 4.8 swap over

Key here being "built". Because the 4L series is still garbage in stock form.

How much are you really going to get out or a LQ9 motor though? They weren't overly impressive motors.... How do the LS2's mate up for comparo?

well i thought of an ls2. but i can get an lq9 at a junkyard and have it rebuild and everything will mount up to it. im not buying a motor new. and if i went with an ls id need to use an intake of an lq9. im not looking for the power an ls2 puts out. well i am but the 6.0 is my base. later ill get a better tranny then ill put a whipple supercharger on it. this is gonna be a long term daily driver build up

hell i evn considered a duramax. and for a while a mechanically controlled 12V cummins 5.9

I'd probably build the LQ9 up atleast somewhat before I put it in.... I sometimes feel like the SSS should have been given a much stronger motor than it was... Which is why I asked about the motor swap. The 6.0s don't run circles around the 5.3s... I'd look at swapping the heads or porting them and putting a torque monster type cam in before I dropped the motor in. Might as well bolt some headers up too. Don't pacesetters make some cheapies for the LQ9?

Now don't let the guys over on SSS.com know I'm saying this or Ill be in big trouble lol!!!!

The swap is fairly easy if you get one from the same year as your truck. Since your sig says 04, I'm guessing thats what you have. The trans will bolt right up, and you will need the PCM or at least some PCM tuning. The Early Vortech HO's (2004 LQ9) came with the 4L65e trans and later was the 4L70e trans which is a built 4L60e trans anyways. You can add the hardened sun shell, kevlar bands, and servos cheap enough to to upgrade your current trans. 98% of accessories will bolt up to the LQ9 as well.

Key is to have tuning done to the PCM for the engine and trans afterward and I'm sure Blackbear, Wheatley or Nelson can help out pretty easy. Also, Wheatley just did the LQ4 swap to his 06, so he would be a good resource for asking questions. As far as installation, they would be the same process.

Good luck and make sure you take photos of the process.

whats the difference in the LQ9 and the L76. and which is easier to do and more available

The A6 transmissions are not plug & play your truck PCM is a 32 bit and the ECM/TCM for the 6spd is a 64 bit controller. Lots of electrical changes to make that happen. But lots of money will make it happen.

The L76 is the 6.0L which replaced the LQ9. It is an all aluminum engine, it comes with AFM & VVT. Comes with 367HP and 375 torque. For your 2004 I would get an LQ9. I would not run a 6 Speed manual on a 6.0, on the SS forum someone had a T56 6 Speed Manual but he ended up going back to 4L70E. I would just build an 4 Speed automatic for a 6.0.

So I'm kinda (well not to offend some people I have offended in one my previous threads) mentally challenged. Is the engine I have now the LR4 or the LY2? And I have pondered an L18 swap
