Tail Shaft Seal

1987 GMC Sierra Classic 4X4 350 Automatic

This is not a hard question and feel I should know it but I plain old forget. I replaced a universal joint on the drive shaft to the rear wheels. A week later it starts to leak from the tail shaft of the tyranny. I know it's easy to replace the seal but for the life of me I forget how to replenish the fluid that has leaked out. Was it automatic transmission fluid and I just top it off from the dip stick or something else?

Thanks / Jay

Seeing you say it's 4x4, you need to add fluid to your transfer case. Usually there is two plugs in them, one to drain and one to fill, i would just fill it until the fluid is level with the fill plug.

They do use ATF in some models but there is a seal between the transmission and transfer case so the transmisison doesn't leak into the transfer case.
