Chattering Belt Under Load

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

On our 2003 Yukon XL Denali there is a unique noise coming from under the hood under load. The best word I've found so far to describe it is a chatter. I thought it was from the belt tensioner and replaced both the tensioner and the serpentine belt (Gatorback). Still there.

It is fine at idle, but makes noise when accelerating. Also at higher rpms when in neutral. It doesn't seem to go away once warm like some other belt squeeling issues.

The a/c was out also. It was a bad a/c belt tensioner so both that and the a/c belt are new and working properly.

Any ideas where it could be coming from?

take the belts off and run it, if the noise goes away that its belt or pulley related(water pump, alt, AC, PS). if the noise doenst go away then its engine or trans noise.
