I'm looking to replace the 454 in a 1995 K2500 with a 454 from a 1999. What are the differences between these and what type of possible problems would there be swapping, if any?

Thanks in advance

'95 was when GM changed the Gen Models in the 454.

What I can recall scribbled in my notebook. I dont have specifics, or what can be interchanged. (I'm not BB savvy)

Timing cover bolt pattern changed

Cooling passages changed

Lifter bosses changed

Cams changed

Fuel injection changed

Depending on which heads are installed:

Oval port standard performance

Thinner rods/valves

cast crank

Retangular port heads high performance

Thicker rods/valves

fordge crank

hope it helps...

IN 96 it started the vortec 454. THe heads are different. The 95 will have conventional heads and the 96 will be the L29 vortec head which has a different intake bolt pattern. The differences in power are night and day. The 96 also went to OBD II for engine management. They are pretty much to different animals.

Thank you both. I noticed the one in the 95 has non adj. rockers and cast aluminum valve covers, so I thought it was Vortec. I figured if I switched all the sensors, senders and maybe some parts of the intake, it might work OK.
