Hey ya'll,

I've found a 1998 Chevy S10 ZR2 Ext. Cab (  :inlove:  ) --Onyx Black, 3rd door, all power, black step bars, black slotted taillight colors...everything!  Its got 80000 miles on it and they want $10,800....good deal or not??  Thanks,

I'd try to talk them down a little, but it sounds like a good truck.

If not, Paco's got a dodge he'll sell you real cheap, comes complete w/ a broken tranny and a slightly busted suburban mirror.

Well, on KBB I am getting from $13k-$15k prices on it so I am thinking this is a good deal.  The old man that is selling it knows my dad so maybe I'll get a deal.

IMO, that's too much for that truck with 80k.

I'd be looking for the $8k-$9k range

My first reaction to this was too much for a compact pickup with 80K miles.  I still feel that way even after you said the books said it was worth more.  Heck, you can almost get a half ton for that money.

Based on "Black Book" prices of:

Condition---------Trade-in Value---Retail Value

Average------------$11,605---------$13,650

Rough--------------$ 9,535----------$12,175

it looks like a very good deal, assuming its in 'Average' or better 'Condition'. Doesn't qualify for 'Clean' or 'Extra Clean' 'Condition' due to the mileage. You can verify figures by going to www.cars.com & clicking on the 'Research' link on the bottom of the page, then on the next page that comes up look for:

USED ONLY: Get retail and trade-in

values from the Black Book guide

The "Black Book guide" is clickable link & will start the pricing process. Pop-up window will come up after the 1st bit of info is input. Just input necessary info until prices are eventually displayed.

wholesale is the value you want. if you know someone thats connected with auctions, they can give you the most accurate value. basically wholesale is what a used car dealer would pay for the truck. Kelly blue book and nada, show values to assist insurance companies, banks and used car dealers for lot prices. i garuntee you that a used car dealer would pay around $8,000 and use a book to mark the price up to $9,000+.

Having purchased a 92 Jimmy in 97 for $10,000 with 71k miles on it, I can relay that I would definitely consider it carefully.  What type of work do you do?  How many miles will you be putting on a year?  How well serviced has the vehicle been?  I enjoyed the Jimmy, but I was still in school at the time I got it, so I had to make payments.  I also got a sales job and was putting 1000 miles on it a week...Needless to say, looking back, I would've shopped around a bit more.  My .2cents

Just so I don't leave ya'll hanging...we've decided against this truck.  Dad wants to get something cheaper for me for now so that he can put liability only on it and be done with it.  I'm looking for a 4x4 Grand Cherokee or a ZR2 Blazer...but I am open to other stuff too. LOL  Later.
