I have what appears to be a small tear in my drivers leather seat, basically on the drivers seat, left side. Can it be fixed with out taking it out and going to a pro??

What can be used??

interesting that nobody is touching this topic....i'm curious as well. don't need it now, but the driver's seat in the 02 has some of the "wear cracks" faintly appearing, and the resulting tear is next, not sure how long that will take to emerge. I know the passenger seat in this truck had been removed and reupholstered while it was in the used car dealer's possession prior to my purchasing it, but no telling how much it costed them to have that done by an outside pro...surely less than you and I would pay "retail" to get the same thing done. Whatever the case may be, I can tell you that the leather they used is identical to factory, which leads me to believe that the material, in that color, is available, but I have no info on where an average joe would buy it from. I have tried (on a previous vehicle) the "leather repair kit" avaliable at auto parts stores and it is definitely a sanford-and-son-looking repair when you're done. If you just don't want a "rip" there, it will fix that, but it is visible when you're done, or at least it was when I did it. I know that is not much for specific information, but hopefully it will provide something helpful...

Mine already has the rip started and I can see the seat stuffing  I have no clue if this can be repaired or if it's going to need recovered

Chances are, no repair will look normal since there is no way to put the leather back together without some sort of fasteners or sewing. Any good upholstry shop should be able to match the color just fine if you go the recover route. If the tear is small, they may be able to sew it back together without it looking "too" bad.
