Bed Liner/roll On Bed Liner

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone so i took the hard bed liner out of my silverado today only to find that it has worn off most of the pain on the truck box in certain areas. There is no rust on the places where there is no pain but i am concerned that eventually there will be. I never haul anything more than a piece of wood here or there so my question is how can i fix this and would a roll on bed liner be a good idea. Is there anyone that has tried the roll on bed liner and can tell me whether they would recommend it. Thanks a allot for the information everyone.

You could do the roll on liner in the wear areas and reinstall the plastic liner. Otherwise a roll on liner by itself.... well, you get what you pay for.

I would just get some spray paint and cover the bare spots with paint. I have done this in the the past with my older truck and it will keep the rust from forming and it is a really cheap and easy way to solve the problem. Yes, of course it will rub through again, but it might take a year or two to rub through. This is just what I have found to work and is cheap.

I agree with Zembonez you get what you pay for. I have Line-X and for the little extra cash and saving your body the aching pain of kneeling down in your bed and roughing it up for an afternoon and then cleaning it out really good. By then having to make sure you put a nice even coat into the bed and let it cure.

I know Line-X cures almost instantly but you cant haul heavy items from what my dealer told me for 24 hours. I am not for sure if Rhino Liner is the same (would have got that but the dealer is a jerk where I am from). The warranty from both companies is great, but like I said before you get what you pay for.

I thought of linex but where im from i have to travel about 12 -14 hours out of town to get it done.. which sucks... however if i were to repaint or touch up the parts that were worn off what can i put into the box of the truck before i put the liner back in.Thanks again

Since you sound like you don't want to spend a lot of money on the liner, I would still suggest that you get a can of spray paint and cover the bare spots with paint so they will not rust. The great thing about spray paint is that it dries in about 10 minutes, so you can put your liner right back in.

I did a Duplicolor do it your self bedliner last year and it came out perfect. I was going to spend $400+ on one of the name brand spray in liners and decided to try it my self. Well I took my time and followed the instructions exactly. I am very happy with the results and everyone thinks I paid big money. Total spent is $78.50 I can post up pics later if any one wants me to. I carry motorcycles and ATV's all the time it it takes the abuse fine. Do your self a favor if you could use the monies for something else and do it your self. I am glad I did.

Lets see some pics. I have a bed cover, so sun damage would not a be a big concern. I go back and forth between a bed liner and bed rug.

Exactly what I do. I haul a lot of stuff in my bed and beat the S out of it. I tried line X on my last truck, but when loading a skid of grout into the bed with a forklift, the edge of the skid peeled the lineX back like an orange. I spray the bed down with a coat of Rustoleum every 6 months, about 4 cans. They make a textured spay that I find in home depot. I forget the name but it has some fine grit worked into it. It doubles really well as a none slip surface.

Last week I had a bag of highway patch rip in half as I tried to pick it up, all over the bed. About 30 minutes later the truck caught a quick rain shower and about 1/2 the bed has a fairly sturdy layer of concrete liner. We will see how this lasts.

My brother recently started welding up his own custom bumpers for his trucks, and once he's done he's been buying a durable aerosol spray can that's essentially like a thinner verson of rhino liner, could touch up your truck with this, buy a bedrug, and just toss the liner.

thanks for all the posts and feedback guys. Yesterday i painted up the parts that were scrapped al little with some primer then some factory paint and then i was told to put some of that rust check with a little grease on the box to prevent the large amount of friction on the box and from the liner to prevent it from scratching the paint of as fast. How ever i would like to see some picks of the DIY liner V8Nuts did if he doesn't mind sharing them because i might do that to the next truck i get within the next few years. Thanks again for the responses everyone its greatly appreciated.
