Chryslers Lifetime Powertrain Warranty

If there isn't a ton of fine print associated with this new warranty, I would have to SERIOUSLY consider a Dodge truck. This takes care of the biggest weak link the Dodge has (in my opinion of course) which is the transmission. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

I don't know if the Tranny is the only weak link! They have a lot of body integrity issues and interior fit and finish (i.e. rattles and squeeks) issues. What good if a lifetime powertrain warranty when the rest of the truck has fallen apart! Sorry, just not a big fan of Chrysler or Dodge!

Regardless, that is pretty impressive. Imagine now taking in your 1978 truck for an engine issue.

Yes, it is impressive. But I would want to see the "Limitations" and fine print before drawing any conclusions. I do know that it ONLY applies to the original owner of the vehicle and is NOT transferrable. So, I am sure they realize not too many people keep their vehicle beyond 100K miles anyway. Plus, you have to have your vehicle "dealer inspected" every 5 years to keep the warranty valid. I am guessing they will find quite a bit of "required" scheduled maintanence to get your money on each of those visits. If you decline, they may void the warranty. They will figure out a way to offset any of the projected costs of this warranty, you can bet on that.

Buyer will pay for it either up front, such as "no, we can't come down on the price, after all, you are getting a lifetime drive train warranty" or with some kind of activation fee, or with the periodic inspections where they will require the buyer to have dealer parts put on by the dealer. There is no free lunch! Marketing ploy.

Could be. What about GM changing their powertrain warranty to the 100,000 mile? To me it seems that Chrysler is simply betting that there won't be enough original buyers who keep these vehicles for it to cost them more than the sales it will generate. Might be nice to look at the new Challenger knowing the motor and tranny are covered for life. Makes doing those smokey burn outs all the more fun.

Keep in mind, there WILL be exclusions, and I am betting the Charger/Challenger will be one of them.

They fixed the tranny issue in 03 when they went to the 5 speed. They still have issues but it's about the same as the GM trannies.

What's funny on the Dodge and Ford sites they talk about the weak GM trannies. Ignoring that it's their weakness as well.

This also doesn't cover any diesel or SRT model. Which sucks because my dream is to get an SRT8.

I don't know what this free 5 year inspection is. It would make more sense instead of that if they required you to keep a log book where certified service people did the oil tranny fluid.....etc changes.

I mean what is the 5 year inspection going to do.

I'll have to keep an eye and see if their prices go up.

Is it the lifetime of the truck or the lifetime of Dodge/Chrysler?

...at the rate US automakers are losing money and market share... that's about equal to a 5 year 50,000 warranty!

:withstupid:

Just about everything has been the weak link with Dodge trucks. They are outdated, low quality throughout and not even close to GM or Ford in any respects. It looks just like another ploy to scam more uneducated customers into buying their shotty products. Remember the 7/70 DCX warranty? This will last just about as long as that marketing ploy.

....I don't think so...That 5 speed has front pump and torque converter lock-up clutch issues causing drivetrain shudder. It couldn't take the torque of little 2.8L diesel motor in my '05 Jeep liberty. They denied any problems with this transmission right up until the day I received the recall notice.

Anyways, Chrysler's warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. Did nothing but argue with the dealer, Regional Service Manager and 1-800-complaint line for 16 months. They did absolutely nothing for my vehicle's mechanical problems until I threatened to sue them....never again. My Chevy dealer saved me the trouble.

wow.. is this the official 'kick Chrysler in the balls' thread..?

yeah this is a GM forum, but maybe ya'll should cut Chrysler some slack?

Daimler drove an already fragile Chrysler into the ground... this new warranty is Cerberus trying to turn things around. it'll only end up effecting a small percent of their buyers but at least it's a start. warranty the crap you have now & get to enginneering better vehicles for tomorrow!

i'm not thrilled with the products DCX turned out, but i'm pulling for the new 'Chrysler Group' ..would love to see american companies turn things around and the 'Big 3' mean something again!

didn't some little foreign company use the longer warranty to improve their image with success???

(see Hyundai)

I have to agree!!! As much as I hate Chrysler products right now, I would love nothing more than to see them succeed.
