DISAPPOINTED WITH GMC TRUCKS

Both purchased new, Yukon 20,000 mi and already the intermediate shaft has been replaced, and dealer has ordered front shocks rubbers because of a front end noise going over bumps, rear glass has been replaced broken hinge, radio fuse replaced three times. Now the Sierra 5,000 mi. front diff. replaced at 188 mi fixed the front noise but in four wheel drive now sounds like a train running on a track next to the truck, dealer told me the GM is working on the problem, I have had it in to the dealer three times for the noise. Power seat front motor stopped working back to the dealer, ordered new seat. Fixed the seat but scratched the outside plastic trim and did not put on the inside seat trim, left the carpet dirty and grease from the mechanic shoes, back to the dealer for that fix. Last Saturday washed the truck and noticed that the front rotors are deeply grooved both sides L-R, and the head liner is coming out above all four doors, get this the dealer says that the rotors are normal, and that they can't do anything with the head liner even the new 06's on the lot are like that also. So if anybody is looking to buy a new GMC truck better look over good because the quality is bad and dealers are not helping much. The Yukon I ordered but the Sierra was purchased from dealer stock. I feel your pain. It is bad enough the shiet leaves the factory defective but it really adds insult to injury when you bring it to the dealer and they screw up stuff that was'nt defective to begin with. I have had my own experiance with inept service. See here Inept Service

Well good luck to you and never give up. I would stick that truck up their keester until they put it right.

And it's really insulting to your intelligence when the dealer says that the defective operation of your vehicle is 'normal' (so live with it). Their definition of 'normal' is..... they all do it (so why fix it).

I learned by owning a Ford that unless it's clearly broke, don't try to get the dealer to fix or replace anything unless your ready to put up a fight. Since buying my 05 Sierra, there are some problems (i.e. clunking front end while turning, clanging driveshaft, squeaking doors, mysterious trans behavior: getting stuck in 2nd sometimes at a stop, and the likes) but none that would render the truck in-operable. I quickly learned that GM service is no different from the rest when I first took delivery. Dealer kept my truck for a week to replace some obvious cosmetic issues but didn't do jack sheeot. If I had the time to take days off and deal with the dealer, I would, but sometimes you must work so you can have the nice things in life like a new truck. I am confident that all dealers regardless of make are similar and all makes have their issues, so pick which ones your willing to accept.

Did they replace your glass free? Also, how many miles were on the vehicle when you replaced the glass? I couldn't get it replaced on my 02, and had to buy a new window.

I'll suspect that your rear hinge peeled out of the rubber molding / trim?

I dont know if you have taken care of all those problems yet kevpopapump but i can tell you for a fact,

(- clunking front end while turning-) I can already tell you pretty much this is the steering shaft and is a easy fix.

(-mysterious trans behavior: getting stuck in 2nd sometimes at a stop, and the likes-)There is a computer update that will fix this problem also had it done on my 05 and has not done it since.

(-squeaking doors-)There was a post on here the other day i remember seeing where someone just used a little greese where the hooks secure into the door and said it got rid of all the noises.

(-clanging driveshaft-)Pretty much has done it with every chevy truck i have owned, i think it's pretty much just one of those annoying little problems that will have to be dealt with.I did remember seeing something about greesing that input shaft that goes into the tranny helping but that was a couple years ago and never tried it with my last truck that did it.

Every company makes vehicles that are defective in some sense. I wouldn't scream how i'm dissapointed at a whole company's product because you had bad luck. Similarly i've had extraordinarily good luck. I've had 3 GM vehicles myself, all of which were/are awesome and i've had very little problems with them.

All in all i don't think most problems are apparent design defects, they are just variables that happen when something is mass produced. That means that more of a few people have had bad luck.

TED, That is right the hinge pulled away from the glass. Had a few thousand miles on it so under warrenty. But the rest of that story is that when the tects removed the window they scratch the paint on the left side and did not fix it, I did not see the scratch for a couple of weeks and was p***** when I found it so back to the dealer for that fix, of course they used the touch up bottle and not a spray gun to repair. The replacement window is what you see now on 05 and 06 Yukons, so must have had several defective. jim s/w florida

Thanks for the replies from all much appreciated. I have owned GMC trucks for several years, still own an 1989 Sierra SLE 4X4 210,000 mi. this truck in like new condition, I built the motor and transmission at 190,000. When GM offered the employee discount I purchased the 05 Sierra, I like the truck I just don't like what is happening to the mechanical of the truck, like brake rotors going south with only 5,000 miles on them, and the ungodly noise from the four wheel drive and the dealer telling me that unless the brakes are pulling or pulsating or squeaking they can't do anything about it and that GM is working on the noise in the four wheel drive. Groves in the rotors (deep ones at that) in 5,000 mi give me a break...I just didn't fall off a christmas tree I have been a mechanic all my life and been there and done that...I will put together a picture piece of my three trucks and post in the future got other things on my pallet at this time. jim s/w florida

The maddening part for me is that they just keep replacing the poorly made part with the same poorly made part. It's not redesgined or made of any other different materials to SOLVE the problem. That's the maddening part, not that it went bad in the first place. That indicates to me that they do not want to solve the problem, they just want you to go away or give up.
