Smoked taillights on a black GMC.

Hey guys!

So I did a little searching and couldn't find any pics of smoked taillights on a black truck so here are my before/after shots. Just took them to a local body shop so I wouldn't screw them up, cost $125 for all three.

Most likely they used what is called a tinted clear coat. I am getting mine done at my local bodyshop for $100, all 3. From what I know, its basically an automotive clear coat slightly tinted with a black base coat. Those turned out great!

I do my own for my cars and friends I use vht night shade which is for blacking out tail lights and I throw clear coat on. I could explain the whole process in detail if anyones interested just shoot me a message. I've had people come up to my buick asking where I got it done, the look on their face is priceless when I say I do em lmao.

Yours look great man!

Thanks! After doing this I am seriously considering doing my headlights, not a heavy shade though. I'm just worried about less effective headlights? Just wonder if it would look good.

Trust me do not attempt to do your heads with VHT, they are to big and will turn out splotchy and look like crap unless you keep spraying a couple of time then you cant see at night. I tried this and was not good, however I did my tails myself with VHT and get compliments all the time so im not a idiot when it comes to doing this kind of stuff. I ended up tinting my heads and love them, I went with the darkest shade and you can get you can get a couple of lighter shades as well. I did these myself and would advise getting them done at your local tint shop unless you have a little knowledge, patience, heat gun, a little skill and luck, not a newby mod becase of their shape towards the top and bottom takes a little forming to get them right.

That's just the tight amount of tint on the tails for them to look decent and not overdone. I was contemplating smoking mine, but decided on Denali tails instead but am reconsidering that move now LOL

You wet sanded beforehand right

Yes ....... The headlights on the GMT900's just have to much surface area to use VHT with a light coat and make it look good enough for me anyway but I am pretty anal

i just bought covers the lights are too nice to shade and if a cop decided to be an ass about it id have trouble.. cops out here are not cool especially when the dunes open up omg..

I believe you could light coat VHT your split heads, and the covers work with the 800's, but just a different animal on the 900's in my opinion. Fingers crossed on mine with the police I haven't been bothered as of yet with mine.

Yeah I'm a fan of the VHT on the tails looks good on white trucks in my opinion.

Out of curiosity did you paint all the black trim on your truck? Bumper steps, mirrors, tag surround ect? Or is that aftermarket?

Never really liked chrome on the 900's unless it was on the pearl off white color (don't know the exact name), same with the denali's and escalades. Something about that off white pearl and chrome that is sharp to me, the chrome works well with your straight white as well, its the white trim that makes it for me, nice truck. I wouldn't do the mirrors or step plates on mine but, I like the tail gate cap and my tail gate handle and surround is white too.
