2005 yukon xl/2500, Thinking of doing the 8 hi/lo/ fog/DRL beams on when the hi's are on, using the diode method.Anyone done this and is it safe to do or should I just do the 6 ?

Thx for all responses,

I have the done the 6 light method using diodes with no problems noted. Personally I haven't seen any directions on the 8 light method. With the 6 lights there is plenty of light in my opinion.

Have a nice day.

I did the 6 hi/lo mod, what a difference. I now have no problem making the oncoming hi beam guy switch off his hi beams.

Thanks for replies.

I have the 6 hi using diodes on my 03 subuurban. Been installed for over 3 years and never any problems. If I want, it is very easy to revert it back to normal configuration by just pulling out the diodes.

I found this easy mod here in this GM Truck forums, sorry I forgot where but you can do a search or just hunt around, not too hard to find since this was a big subject a while back. Again, what a difference.

Hope this helps,

sorry to ask a dumb question, but what is this 6-8 diode thing? never heard of this.

its when you use diodes on your hi,lo,drls or fog light control relays,I have mine so that when my hi beams are turned on my hi's,lo's and fogs are all on.

ok, So how do I wire to have my hi/lo/foglights at the same time. On a 2004 Sierra?

What size diodes? and where are they connected (under the hood)?

The best way is to do a search here at gm-truck forums, there are many listings and diagrams. I have a 05 yukon xl, under the hood on the drivers side, on the left fender, you should see a large black plastic box with a removable top.Remove that top and look under that cover and you will see which relays and fuses control what systems. Radio Shack carries these diodes 2 for .56 cents, forgot the part number but a search in here will work. Basically when you put on your hi beams, that hi beam relay pin #85 will now power the lo and fog relays,it could also power your drl's if you want. Meaning all 8 lights on. Hope this helps,if not send me an email and I can talk you thru it or fax you a copy of the diagram.

I did the 8-hi on my 03. I used 3 1N4004 Diodes from radio shack. 99 cents for two of them. I went from the high beam relay with the diodes to the low beam, fog lamp and DRL relays. I soldered 18 gauge wire on the diodes so they would reach the other relays. Very simple and easy to do!!!
