  1. After extensive seat of the pants testing, even if E85 was a little more than 87 id buy it for the performance gain on the 14s. After all anyone who has had a performance car has paid extra for 93 gas. The best part it is cheaper. If it even mattered to me I get 15MPG on E85 in town, I got around 17 on 87.
  2. I don't know if will work on a hard part change, but when I do a tune (hand held) I pull all the TM out for a nice hit under part throttle. If want to lessen the hit and max RPM under full throttle I hit the tow haul button, if the wife is along for the ride. That drops it to 5500 RPM from 6000 RPM and calms down the shift.
  3. They are going to clean up. My brother in law bought two Toyotas just before I bought my GMC. Not a problem one and no V4, not as good on gas or as quick as mine but pretty nice. Im a hard core GM guy thou, happy with mine so far. If it starts shaking its gone.
  4. Bound to happen, never seen them sit on the sidelines.
  5. No worries, that's one more year for me. Just about the time when Nissan and Toyota get their diesels 1/2 tons going. Just give me an reason. Im not playing games, lifes to short to hate your ride.
  6. The vibration I sometimes feel in my truck I wouldn't have paid attention to if it wasn't for reading this thread. The down side I believe, to one of the things we like about these trucks, they are so smooth and quite. I agree in some cases that people have real problems with their trucks, its bound to happen when you produce so many trucks. The same thing could be said about wheels, tires and balance. Some of my biggest fights have been buying new tires, I set aside a day and prepare for the battle. In my case so far its all been road related, if the road is bad it shakes a little, I run lower air pressure too which helps a lot.
  7. Well here's one more take it to the track see how it runs there. If you like the way it feels then chill and have fun with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. When I ran my 454s and lots of timing I wired a switch in the dash. I would wheel it over hit the switch. I got tired of blowing the nose off the starter.
  9. Not trying to be a butthead my vote is around 700HP hard to imagine more without a blower or NOS. Good luck!
  10. I got real tired of the V4 helicopter sound with my exhaust and I wanted my trans. shift points to be a bit firmer. As far as the engine performance I figured reducing the TM in the trans. would also wake up the engine. That and buying a can tune would give me some backing if a problem came up in the engine. Their engine tunes are pretty mild. I could see there being a case in regards to the trans. if you remove all of the TM the trans. hits pretty hard. If you go custom tune and melt the engine or scatter parts I could see where GM could have a case, there are some good ones out there but their names aren't as well known as Hypertech , Diablosport etc. They still have to prove the part broke the truck.
  11. I for one cant wait for the 8 speed. I have no problems with my 14 model, in two or three years when I trade the 8 speed will be the one reason I will do it. The 454 comparison with the 5.3 or 6.2 for fuel mileage was kind of foolish, I had a few of those great engines good on gas no way, better than the 460 or bid block mopars yes. They are the reasons I went to diesels before our government screwed that up.
  12. Back when I played with 454s mostly in impalas, with a 400 turbo trans and 373 gear I got 16 mpg on the freeway and 14mpg in town. I did use a 700r4 trans for awhile the trans back then couldn't handle the tq. The impala with the 400 would spin 3000 rpms at 60 mph. So to spin the kind of rpms you claim with 411 gears you must have been driving 45 mph or had some real over sized tires that will kill the gas mileage I love the 454s I dealt with back in the day, but to claim they could get the same gas mileage even at 2200rpm as todays chevy engines is a bit of a stretch. I even built a 76 nova with the impala set up still got mid teens on the gas mileage. The only 454 truck I had that I left stock had a 373 gear it got 13 mpg at 60 mph on the freeway. I would say that GM nailed it when it come to the engines of today even if I hate the V4. The last hwy trip I took I got almost 22 mpg at 72 mph, as much as I enjoyed the old big blocks I aint going back.
  13. Every once in a while I post this for new comers. Seven months ago I put my truck up on the lift to work on the exhaust. I saw all the stuff on there and decided to experiment, so I cut the muffler off left everything else. It didn't sound bad at all low rumble at speeds you hear it when you nail it. Cost 40$. To get rid of the drone I ran in M5 till I would stay steady over 65, then I just clicked to M6. If you don't like the sound its only 40$ no big deal, chance it. Then I finally bought a can tune to get rid of the V4 sound and firm up the transmission buy removing some of the TM Im very satisfied. All that for less than 400$. Or you can spend a grand or more just on the exhaust to get your sound and hopefully no V4.
  14. I notice when I first bought my truck it ran better on E85 or 93 gas. A few months ago the tuners where seeing KR on 87 gas. I guess it wouldn't hurt the 5.3s to run 87 gas but your not getting the performance if its hitting KR a lot. I run E85 it cheap and easy to get for me, the performance on it is noticeable.
  15. If you buy it like that at the dealer it can hit 80k real easy, when you drive it off the lot you just threw away 30k. Then your driving around a steal me sign, or im rich sign. My son has one I wouldn't ride in it. He sells time share, I don't have one of those either. He likes to trade every year, that truck broke him of that, going on year three still upside down. I ask how do you like it now, he likes it for 30 days out of the month, day 31 is a killer.
  16. Wow two blanket statements with no research. First the next to last post there are 15s out in 3/4 and 1 tons could it be they have vibration problems I see no truck in his sig. So he could be driving a 15 3/4 ton. Last post people can still get steel wheels and wheel weights on the outside even in these ( modern times) imagine that.
  17. I did feel a little shake on my last trip east on I 10 at around 75 MPH, the road surface changes so much it hard to tell if its truck or road. I would have though nothing of it if I haven't herd there was a problem with some of the trucks, that seem to be a lot worse. But if I ever have a warranty problem that a dealer doesn't fix and GM doesn't follow thru Ill be done with the brand. Ive own more than a few GMs and only had one claim, it was repaired with no problems.
  18. I cant even imagine that, all the people that travel would have to worry that if they had car trouble a non selling dealer would work on their car. Wouldn't happen, it would be a P.R nightmare.
  19. Before I messed with the exhaust I never notice it either, once I change the exhaust the helicopter showed up and a little V4 vibration. After thinking about it for a while I found the cheapest can tune I could find. For a caned tune it works good. My fuel mileage on a trip last wk at 72 miles an hour was just under 22 miles per gallon. So Ill keep the exhaust and no V4.
  20. I have a 2 wheel drive. I though the Z 71 had a 373 gear, every one I had did.
  21. Its going to take flat ground for sure, even then it will come and go. But the point I was trying to make was, its not just going to come on down hill after 65, you would be at fuel shut off any way.
  22. Wow your just as stubborn as me, I figured more people would jump in on this to get more info on the V4 on the HWY. I tuned mine out cause I saw no gain, just the annoying V4 drone on the HWY. Lets call it a draw ( even though Im right) LOL. I saw what I saw and heard what I heard.
  23. Well I read the whole thread, I wanted to see just how many people said their truck wouldn't go into V4 on flat terrain after 65 MPH, I found no one. Could you point the thread out to me? I did see a few post on Hwy V4 operations though. I didn't think I had the only one that would cruise in V4 on flat terrain after 65.
  24. Yes right 342, I swear my truck spent a lot of time in V4 over 65 on the free way. It would hit V4 in 5th and stay shifting into 6 under light acceleration I hated the sound. I drove in M5 in town and when I got on the free way I would click up to 6 and V4. That's why I spent the money on the tune, I have custom exhaust and didn't like the V4 sound. No need to be an a.. and talk about special wax, not my first cylinder deactivation truck. We will just have to disagree.
