The strong monthly sales numbers represent a 54% increase over the same period in 2013. Light duty Silverado sales rose 71% and had the strongest month in a decade. The Silverado's new double cab is also proving to be popular, with sales of the shorter two door model up 130% over last year. The brand also noted it had sold approximately 2,000 of the special 2014 Rally Edition pickups. “Our Chevrolet dealers took advantage of pent-up demand in the full-size truck segment and by offering customers more choices, we’re bringing more truck buyers to Chevrolet at the expense of some of our competitors,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet. “We intend to continue this momentum with new models such as the Rally Edition – released in August – and the High County HD, which shipped to dealers last month.”

By Zane Merva Executive Editor, GM-Trucks.com 10/2/2014 The entirely new Chevy compact crossover named the Trax will go on sale starting at $20,995. Sharing the same platform as the compact luxury Buick Encore, the Trax will be "the most affordable AWD model in the Chevrolet portfolio". All wheel drive is an option on any trim level, costing $1,500. Other notable available features include key less entry, rearview camera, MyLink with a 7-inch screen, and a built in 4G WiFi hotspot. Trax will also offer Siri Eyes-Free for iPhone users. The Trax goes on sale in January of 2015 and will come in LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels. “Trax is positioned to be a strong competitor in the emerging small-SUV market, which is expected to grow more than 80 percent in the next few years,” said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet director of car marketing.

If purchased with a 7-speed manual, the car will be slightly slower, making the dash to 60 in 3.2-seconds. Quarter mile times are quick; just 10.95 seconds for the automatic and 11.2 seconds with the manual. Braking performance is also exceptional. 60-MPH to zero only takes 99.6-feet. Lateral acceleration tops out at 1.2G. These figures were achieved with the optional Z07 performance package, Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The 2015 Corvette Z06 starts at a bargain $78,995 and goes on sale in early 2015. “The Corvette has long been known as America’s sports car,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors’ executive vice president, Global Product Development. “With the capability of the new Z06 rivaling the best performance cars in the world, we will also be America’s Supercar.”

Between the Chevrolet and GMC brands, the company captured 80% of the large SUV market. The companies share of the large pickup market increased by 5% to just under 40%. Average transaction prices (ATPs), the average amount that the company sold a vehicle for during September, was $34,600. This is a $1,200 increase from August and a $2,500 increase from last September. Other strong selling models include the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave; which are jointly up 31%. View attachment: GM-Deliveries-September-2014.pdf September Sales Highlights (vs. 2013 except as noted- Provided by GM) Chevrolet deliveries increased 20 percent, with Silverado up 54 percent, Suburban up 50 percent, Traverse up 45 percent, Cruze up 45 percent, Sonic up 14 percent and Equinox up 12 percent. Corvette deliveries nearly tripled. GMC deliveries were up 28 percent, including a 25 percent increase for Sierra and a 16 percent increase for Terrain. Yukon sales nearly doubled and Yukon XL was up 64 percent. Sales of the new Cadillac Escalade more than doubled, helping the brand deliver results equal to a year ago. Buick deliveries increased 12 percent, with Enclave up 36 percent, Encore up 20 percent, Verano up 6 percent and Regal up 5 percent. The Encore has been the industry’s best-selling small SUV for six months in a row. The first deliveries of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon occurred in September and availability will grow throughout the fall. GM has announced plans to add a third shift at its Wentzville, Mo., assembly plant in early 2015 to meet expected demand for both mid-size pickups and full-size vans. Incentive spending as a percentage of ATPs was 11.1 percent, up 0.2 percentage points from August but the lowest of all domestic automakers by a significant margin, according to PIN. GM’s calendar-year-to-date spending as a percentage of ATPs is 10.7 percent, down 0.3 points, while industry spending is 10.0 percent, up 0.4 points. “GM saw strength almost across the board in September, and outpaced the industry with the newest trucks and SUVs at exactly the right time,” said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of Sales Operations. “We will have improved availability of heavy-duty pickups and large SUVs in the months ahead, and the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are arriving in showrooms as we speak. This sets us up to finish the year on a very strong note.”

The GearOn system is featured throughout the Colorado Sport. The concept is essentially made from accessories available at a local dealer. Chevy has engineered the new 2015 Colorado to be very accessory friendly. This concept highlights and includes; Assist steps Cargo rings Splash guards Tiered storage Bike rack Cargo divider Wheel lip moldings I just shared my first drive thoughts on the 2015 Colorado and Canyon after driving them this week. We'll also be posting live from SEMA in November and will report on everything GM is up to. Look for Chevy and GMC to announce more of these special SEMA Concepts in the next few weeks. “It’s not just mountain bikes, but just about any passion you can name, from kayaking, fishing, dirt bikes and more,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “It’s a truck for those who need the versatility of a pickup to support their work and lifestyle interests, but don’t need a full-size truck to do it.”

View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon32.jpg View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon31.jpg A new start Last offered in 2012, the Colorado and Canyon were honorable replacements for the old but respected S-10 and Sonoma. Developed by Isuzu and adapted by General Motors, the first Colorado and Canyon never represented the integrated product that the Chevrolet and GMC lineup deserved. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon35.jpg The 2015 models are the exact opposite. Developed entirely in-house, the company has been able to engineer two new pickups that mirror the features and packaging of their larger, full-size family members. Now buyers can choose full-size or mid-size without giving up features, options, or comfort. Like many automakers, GM is not linking the size of the vehicle to how comfortable and feature rich it can be. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon37.jpg That means that the new Colorado and Canyon can now be equipped with features you could not previously find in the last generation. The same Chevy MyLink or GMC Intellilink systems from the Silverado and Sierra are available, with the same large 8-inch screens and same optional navigation. Heated seats, hill-descent, Bose sound system, and a tow-haul mode have also migrated from the full-size models. The 2015 Colorado and Canyon can be purchased with one of two engines. Each has it’s purpose and strong suits. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon28.jpg 2.5L I4 - 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque The base engine, a four-cylinder, is on the roster for customers who need fuel economy over all else. Power is adequate but if you’re planning on any amount of towing or hauling, you’re going to be better off with the V6. With that said, fuel economy is excellent and a two-wheel-drive truck with the 2.5L is rated up to 27MPG on the highway. A four-cylinder, extended cab, two-wheel-drive base truck is offering a significant value to someone who wants a small, affordable, versatile and comfortable vehicle. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon43.jpg 3.6L V6 - 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque The optional 3.6L V6 is the same engine you’ll find in other GM models like the Camaro. It’s been recalibrated and specifically tuned for use in a truck. Low end torque is improved and the entire engine RPM range feels beefy and powerful. With the optional frame mounted hitch and a 3.6L V6, the Colorado/Canyon can tow up to 7,000lbs. Considering most full-size truck owners tow on average under 5,000lbs, a 305-horsepower mid-size will accomplish a lot more than you might think. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon45.jpg Two cab sizes Aside from two engine choices, buyers can also pick between extended cab and crew-cab models. Short and long bed options are also available. No regular cab is offered (yet) but the seats in an extended cab can be deleted if a customer desires. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon54.jpg Behind the wheel This new pair of pickups understandably share the same driving experience. Aside from the outside looks and interior appointments, the engine, suspension, and chassis tuning is exactly the same. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon02.jpg After a few hours behind the wheel of a few different examples, two things really stand out as major and noticeable improvements over the past generation of Colorado and Canyon. First, the pair now drive far more like a crossover than a truck. A fully boxed frame means less wiggles and shakes, along with a planted feel. Properly tuned steering provides for a lot of confidence that the truck will end up where you intend on the road. These are every-single-day comfortable vehicles. Second, the trucks are surprisingly maneuverable. From super tight u-turns, squeezing through small back city streets, to tight off-road trails; the Colorado will fit in all sorts of places the Silverado never could. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon19.jpg A few shortcomings For all that the 2015 Colorado and Canyon do right, we still found a few things we didn’t like. For example, the interior is bland and boring. GMC models get a soft touch dash to make up for it but the Colorado is left with a rather cheap looking plastic. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon30.jpg View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon36.jpg We’re a little confused with the styling direction taken by the two brands. We’re excited that the two pickups look very little alike but while the Canyon is a carbon-copy of the larger Sierra, the Colorado looks nothing like the Silverado. View attachment: 2015_Colorado_Canyon50.jpg Final Thoughts GM argues that many midsize pickup buyers have been disenfranchised by the lack of options over the past decade. They are confident that by offering models in this segment that have the refinement and features of other modern vehicles, they can lure back customers from the crossover and suv segment. With the competition in such rough shape, that argument holds a lot of water. However, a redesigned Tacoma can’t be that far off and it will take time to see if the Colorado and Canyon can establish themselves as the new leaders in this segment. It will be hard to declare these trucks an overnight success but the cards are stacked in their favor. There is no doubt these are the most feature rich midsize pickups ever built. It’s exciting that customers can finally choose a pickup’s size and features independently of one another. That's not something any other automaker offers.

Based on the Sierra double-cab, the Elevation Edition features a body-colored grille surround along with color-keyed door handles, mirrors, and body moldings. The special edition also features the upscale Sierra headlights with LED daytime running lights. The Elevation Edition also will come with unique black painted 20-inch aluminum wheels. With no unique engine choices and only GM's 4.3L and 5.3L engines available, it remains to be seen how much "sport" is really in this new Sierra. At least it looks amazing. “Much in the same way the Sierra Denali and Sierra HD Denali models raised the standard for premium pickup trucks, the Sierra Elevation Edition will surprise and excite customers shopping for a sport pickup,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president, Buick and GMC. “With its striking looks, sophisticated connectivity features and legendary capability, the Elevation Edition raises the standard of what a sport pickup truck can be.”

Yesterday, Chevrolet and GMC announced that shipments of the two new mid-size trucks had began via rail and truck. Consumers have "configured" more than 100,000 of the mid-size trucks since the model's "build your own" tool went live online September 3rd. For 2016, a 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel will be offered as an engine choice. “The Colorado was designed to meet the demands of the modern midsized truck buyer, and now we’re fulfilling the demand they’ve placed on us,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet. “Chevrolet and everyone at the Wentzville plant has worked hard to get the truck out on time to fulfill as soon as possible the orders our dealers have placed.”

According to Cadillac, the new model will be positioned above the current CTS and XTS lineups. The brand expects to announce the name for the car in the "near future". There are rumors the rear-wheel drive car will be called the "LTS." This vehicle will also be the first to get Cadillac's new "Super Cruise" technology. The new model is expected to share design cues from the recent Elmiraj and Ciel concepts. Production of the "high-end, high-technology" car will start in the last quarter of 2015. The Detroit-Hamtramck facility is currently undergoing $384-million of investment and produces the Chevy Volt, Malibu, Impala, and the Cadillac ELR. “The objective for this upcoming model is to lift the Cadillac range by entering the elite class of top-level luxury cars,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “Currently in development, this new rear wheel drive-oriented sedan uses completely new, custom-designed materials on a unique vehicle architecture." “In addition to new technology in the car itself, we are instituting innovative manufacturing techniques to assemble it with the precision deserving of a luxury make.”

Packaging is similar but not the same as the Silverado Rally but the premise of different but similar editions remains the same. Sierra Carbon 22 Edition The 22 will be offered on Sierra SLE double and crew-cab models. It adds unique graphics featuring a carbon fiber like appearance. A black grille and body colored handles and mirror caps add a distinctive look. As you'd guess, the 22 features 22-inch black alloy rims. It also features standard fog lamps, remote keyless entry, universal home remote, dual zone climate, and a 110-volt outlet. Sierra Carbon 20 Edition The 20 is only offered on SLE double cab. It has the same painted grille and carbon fiber graphics as the 22. As you'd also guess, it rides on smaller 20-inch wheels and gets the same goodies as the 22 Sierra Carbon Edition Lowest Carbon Edition trim, features unique carbon graphics and the same painted grille and bits from the 20 edition. It also features the same goodies as the 22 and 20 without any specific rims. All Carbon Edition pickups can be had with the 4.3L V6 or 5.3L V8 EcoTec3 engines and in 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive. The Carbon Edition starts at $33,075, while the 20 will run $38,275 and the 22 starting at $42,270. “The beauty of the new Sierra lies in its strength and sophistication,” said Stuart Pierce, Sierra marketing manager. “But for customers wanting to stand out and make a strong statement, the Sierra Carbon Edition models are the answer.”

By Zane Merva Executive Editor, GM-Trucks.com 9/12/2014 Buick is expanding a fundraising opportunity it is offering to local schools. "Drive for Your Students" is a test drive initiative that pairs local dealerships with local high schools. The premise is pretty simple. The High School host the event, students work it, and Buick provides the cars. The school earns $10 per test drive for the first 100 drives. After that the donation doubles, to $20, up to $10,000 in total. https://buickdriveforyourstudents.com/ Buick says schools need way to fund elective programs and this is a "dynamic" way to do it. The program is also labeled as a resume builder for the teens. While the effort is noble, I can't help but feel that kids pitching their best friend's mom an Enclave for after-school cash seems a teeny bit weird. What do you think? “Schools are always seeking dynamic opportunities to support their extracurricular activities and elective programs,” said Keller (Texas) Independent School District Director of Athletics Bob DeJonge. “It provides an opportunity for the students to build their resume with relevant work experience and for the community to demonstrate support for the school.” “Drive for Your Students” joins Buick’s celebration of academics and achievement, which includes the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program. To date, Buick Achievers, funded by the General Motors Foundation, has provided nearly $28 million in scholarships to students across the U.S. Buick also is a partner of the NCAA and supports achievement in college sports.

2015 Silverado & Sierra to get 8-speed transmission
Zane replied to Zane's topic in Article & Review Archive (Pre-2019)
I very much expect the 8-speed to make it into the 4.3L and 5.3L 1500 Silverado and Sierra.
