It will not be long I feel and you will not find any oils that are considered conventional. Manufacturers are pushing the use of synthetic and for good reason. As stated above you can find various oils at any auto parts store, Valvoline, Pennzoil, Castrol and so on and if you are doing 3 to 5k oil changes they will serve you well. Switching over to a quality synthetic like AMSOIL is never a bad thing. Running cooler, cleaner and holding up longer are all benefits. As is a possible mpg increase. Yes, very unlikely but I have had a few customers that changed over and noticed a 1 to 2 mpg increase after coming from a conventional use vehicle most of it's life. The possibility is there but you will never know unless you try. So no worries switching over. If you are interested in AMSOIL, send me a pm with your address and I can get you a quote delivered to your door for an oil change.

I put on black powder coated tips and so I don't need these anymore. First $80 gets them, that includes shipping. I'm in eastern NC for anyone that is close by.

I loved my 02. No issues at all other than regular maintenance. It had 200k on it when I sold it. -
K&N Cabin Air Filter
Black02Silverado replied to Cupton's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I got a K&N cabin filter for my 2014 Cruze diesel. I like it. Just take it out once a year, clean it and put it back in. Works great for a cabin air filter. -
Playing in the sand will definitely heat up the transmission. Did you ever try to pull a wagon out on the beach. Not easy. That is how hard the vehicle has to work. Hitting 220° F once isn't to bad but keep it up and issues will develop. Like stated above, seals and other parts will degrade fast at high temps. What gets me is my 2014 Cruze diesel's transmission runs at 225° F just cruising down the interstate on a hot summer day. Not something I like but it is the nature of the beast with this transmission. This is why I run AMSOIL's ATF in it and change it out every 40k miles. Now my 2019 has yet to get over 160° F. So far the only towing I have done is with my little utility trailer and my 1,000lbs zero turn mower on it. Running a quality synthetic can help keep the heat down and will hold up longer at higher temps, but the heat it's self is what causes the seals to not last as long. I just might hook up our 10' x 20' enclosed Ainsley's Angel's trailer that is about 4klbs and run it down the interstate to see how my 2019 with the Max tow package and 6.2, 10sp does. My 2002 pulled it well and the transmission temp would get to 198° to 205°.

Andy, I can help out with your AMSOIL needs. Just let me know what you are looking for and I can get a quote out to you. I do early oil changes on all my new vehicles. Start at 500 miles, then 1,500 miles and then at 3,000 miles. From there I go the distance. Like on our 2016 Suburban I'm doing 15k oil changes with AMSOIL's Signature Series 0w-20 and an EaO17 AMSOIL filter. I plan on doing the same with my truck.

Air Filter Change
Black02Silverado replied to GN2018's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Cabin filters as stated above are forgotten more than anything. Case in point. My next door neighbor has a 2008 Buick and he purchased from a friend. I change the oil for him and went to change the cabin filter and it was the original one. It was so full of trash that I'm surprised the HVAC system even had air flow. This Buick also only has 82k miles on it. As for engine filters. I usually change mine out every 20k miles. Just something I do and makes me feel better that the engine can breath. We live in a high pollen area in the spring and you might not be able to see it but it can fill up a filter. Yes, the manual is a guide and if followed it will serve well, but there are times and common sense that one should take into account, like the air filter. It depends on your driving style and area. Like is it in a high pollen and dusty location, do you drive on a lot of dirt roads, that kind of thing. -

I just get in and drive. Life is to short to worry about the small stuff! -
If not already done, I would do a complete fluid exchange. Fresh ATF will always help and it can't hurt. If you are interested in AMSOIL let me know. I can get you a quote delivered to your door.

Grumpy Bears 2015 Silverado 2WD
Black02Silverado replied to Grumpy Bear's topic in Member Build Threads
Sounds great! I always waited at least a few hundred miles before I did an alignment and a re-balance. It was recommended by a family run garage that did nothing but tire work, alignments and suspension work. They were in business over 50yrs and closed their door because they all wanted to retire. Couldn't blame them. Great family run shop and the only one around that still did tire truing and balancing with the tires on the vehicle. Sure do miss them. A vehicle never road as sooth as one that just had the tires trued and re-balanced. -

AMSOIL's filters are all I use, even on my lawnmower. If you are interested send me a PM and I can get you a quote on any AMSOIL product delivered to your door. High Efficiency Efficiency is a filter's ability to capture contaminants. The more efficient a filter is, the more contaminants it will remove from oil. AMSOIL Oil Filters provide a filtering efficiency in accordance with industry standard ISO 4548-12 of 99 percent at 20 microns — one of the best ratings on the market. Some competitors also claim 99 percent efficiency, but at larger particle sizes of 30 to 40 microns. Less Restriction Proper oil flow is essential to keep engine parts lubricated at all times. AMSOIL Oil Filters' synthetic fibers are smaller than the fibers used in traditional filters, allowing for lower restriction which decreases engine wear. Our filters allow oil to flow through more easily than a typical cellulose filter does during cold-temperature warm-ups. Contaminant Retention A filter's capacity refers to the amount of contaminants it can hold and still remain effective. AMSOIL Oil Filters have a greater capacity for small, wear-causing contaminants than competing filter lines. They last longer and ensure the oil is properly filtered. Superior Construction AMSOIL Oil Filters are made with premium-grade full-synthetic media. The strictly controlled processing of this media ensures accurate filter construction and delivers higher capacity and efficiency along with better durability. Our full-synthetic media technology is resin-free to resist degradation from hot oil. It features a rigid mesh material that is pleated with the media for superior strength. AMSOIL Oil Filters are constructed with nitrile gaskets that remain flexible and have been tested to extreme distances in severe environments. They feature fully tucked seams, a molded element seal, roll-formed threads and a long-lasting, premium-grade silicone anti-drainback valve. Easy-Grip Coating AMSOIL Oil Filters feature a textured coating to ease installation and removal. -
Nothing exceptional. Locomotives use electric motors to pull. The diesel engines on them are use to turn the generators to produce the electricity.

HP Tuners
Black02Silverado replied to TNTSierra's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
What gets me is people will drop $3k on a lift, tires and wheels and think nothing of it. Dropping $2k on a tune that you can use the life of the vehicle seems fair. Tires wear out, the tune can get better if more information comes along as one learns how to adjust the ECM and transmission and last the life of the vehicle. Not to mention the possibility of better economy if one wants that as an option. If the shift firmness can be adjusted then a cooler, longer lasting transmission as well. -

AMSOIL's Power Foam for cleaning the upper cylinders. Power Foam is safe for fuel injectors, catalytic converters and emissions-control devices. It will not damage seals, gaskets, rubber or plastic materials commonly used in gasoline engines. Performance Features Cleans deposits from ethanol and degraded fuel Removes gum and varnish Maximizes horsepower Restores startability Helps improve fuel economy Reduces pollution Applications UTVs/ATVs Boats Motorcycles Lawn equipment Tractors Automobiles Directions Protect painted surfaces and mass airflow sensors (MAF) from spray. Ensure application is in a well-ventilated area. Run engine to normal operating temperature and remove air cleaner assembly. While engine is running, spray foam directly into throttle body as fast as possible without stalling engine. It is common to have to rev the engine above idle to facilitate this process. Shut off engine and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes. Replace air cleaner. Restart engine. Repeat application of Power Foam as needed. In extreme cases, disassemble carburetor and soak parts. Recommendations Avoid contact with hoses and exterior plastic components. To prevent the dissolving of paint, do not overspray. Clean any overspray immediately to prevent unintentional component damage. AMSOIL Power Foam is not recommended for use in diesel engines or as a general-purpose degreaser. I just found out about this. Interesting and I wonder if it would help if you got stuck in the mud.

Glad you got it changed. Differential fluid is one thing the average person doesn't bother with. Living up North makes maintenance a pain on vehicles due to the road salt and it's effects on metal.

Where to hide key
Black02Silverado replied to rav3's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Don't need this, you just put your keys in the hollow hitch, slide it in the receiver and get a combo receiver bolt lock. Now it looks just like every other truck with a hitch still in the receiver. combo lock -
Where to hide key
Black02Silverado replied to rav3's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Find a spot on the truck and use black electrical tape to completely tape it to that spot up out of the way and covered with enough tape so water and such can't get to it. Not like anyone is going to crawl under your truck and look for something like that. To many places you can do it so that it can't really be seen unless you look hard enough. -
I don't know what all is available there but 75w-90 will work just fine. The difference between 75w-90 and 80w-90 isn't anything to worry about.

Fuel pump comes on when I open door
Black02Silverado replied to Dusterpilot's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
It should be part of the vehicle purchasing process to explain to buyers all the sounds that the vehicle makes when you turn it off and when you open the doors. It would help make everyone feel better after the sale and when they get home and hear all the sounds to know it is normal and not an issue. -
