Deployed Airbag Replacement Procedure

I bought an 06 Sierra with some slight damage and a deployed driver side airbag. I bought the correct airbag and just snapped it back in without connecting the wires. I wasn't sure if i needed to replace another component of the airbag system as well. Do i need to replace the module or the sensors on the core support. Is there anything else i have to do to make sure everything works correctly?

I would prefer a more educated response. Like you have to take to the dealer so they can do this or that.

Pretty much want to know if i need to replace anything or have anything reprogrammed.

You have to take it to the dealer so they can do this or that. Seriously this is not something you experiment with, for your own safety and consider if you sold the truck and it deployed when it shouldn't or vice versa. You could be in a lot of legal trouble.

+1 This system is not one to play with. Depending on your state law, you could be in some legal trouble if this is not done properly. Especially after the vehicle was sold.

The modules and sensors have specially designed connectors. Once the system is triggered, the csensors and modules must be replaced. I'd leave the work up to a qualified technician, one for your lack of experience. Two ,because you dont have the scanner or test system to see if the system is functioning correctly.

The best thing to do is buy a service manual from HELM INC. . Nobody will help you fix your own newer vehicle -- you have to figure it out on your own. This is one of my biggest pet-peeves about buying a new vehicle, & I may not ever buy new again. I do everything myself -- plumbing, masonry, electrical, carpentry and in the garage, all kinds of mechanical repairs & fabrication. When someone tells me I have to pay $90+ per hour labor rate on a vehicle that I'm already paying $600/month for, I tend to get pissed off.

When I bought my truck, I was doing pretty well. Now that the economy took a steamy dump on all of us, I'm not doing so well anymore & prefer to do my own repairs, like many others. I will do the repairs with or without any help. It's the way you have to be these days.

If you tackle it with a common sense approach & have reasonable mechanical skills, you can do whatever you want. Legality be damned!

I don't mind having to take it to the dealer to check the system. If I have to buy a new module or sensors, i can get them new cheaper than dealer cost. I just thought someone on here would know what's involved. Can anyone check that has a service manual?
