Corsa Exhaust

First of all, hello to the forum. I'm new here. Looks like a lot of knowledgeable guys out there.

Got a couple of questions:

1) First one's kind of a tricky one, guys. The 6.2L has a unique muffler under it with the input/exit offset due to how close it sits to the driveshaft. Supposedly there's a Corsa exhaust kit out there that will fit my 6.2L engine, but I haven't found it yet. The tricky thing is, the 2008 Sierra Denali truck doesn't have that muffler, nor does any truck with the 5.3L engine. So, the real question: Does anyone make a stainless dual exhaust system for the 2009 Silverado with the 6.2L engine?

2) Second question... In short summary, what recommendations do you have for the 6-speed auto as far as tweaking the shift pattern for improved performance? I don't need a rocket ship here, but the transmission under factory settings seems programmed more for fuel economy than towing usefulness. Even in Tow/Haul mode, I find that the transmission waits to shift until you're halfway up a hill, running out of power, and then it has to jump from 6th a couple of gears down to 4th. It's frustrating - I know I can lock it in 5th gear with the Manual shift button, but I'd just like to resolve it in the computer shift sequence. Will something like the Predator void my warranty?

Thanks for all your help!

Welcome to the site.

I cant seem to find the kit also. But if you would like to keep the stock pipes you can just get the corsa muffler and have a shop weld it up. Look into GM performance parts kit. There made by corsa now.

As for the tranny get a blackbear tune. But you have to do it in person or be on the waiting list for the scan cables. That will help your problem.

Jon,

I don't have a 6.2 but I have a 6.0 Vmax 08 and I've poked around looking at the various exhaust systems. Some say their system fits a 6.0L, but all seem to be focused at improving the 4.8/5.3 L system. None seem to offer anything for performance than my stock system. All their published data is for the smaller engines. Unless you just want louder, I'd stick with the stock system until someone comes out with a 6.0/6.2 L specific system.

The last time I talked to Corsa, they said the 2008 system would fit the 2009 6.2l. It just wouldn't work with the 5.3 since they made some changes to the exhaust in '09. I'd probably contact them again just to make sure.

The last I heard, they had to do the transmission tunes live / in-person for the 6-spds. That should be changing "soon." But, I believe I read a few days that the scan cable tunes still can't reprogram the 6-spds.. at least for now.

I’m pretty sure that the 09 6.2 is different than the 08. I seem to recall that the bolts where you would attach the new system to the original changed direction. Not real sure about that, but I would most definitely call Corsa before buying a kit for an 08 and just “assuming” that it will work.

Before going the custom tune route for your transmission shift point change, try calling your dealer and see if you have the latest programming. There have been a few updates for the 6 speed. That may be all you need.

Okay. Thanks for all your input, everyone. I'll check with the dealership next time I take it in, and see what they have for a program update on that transmission.

I had placed a call to Corsa a few months ago, and the guy I got seemed to just be looking at their catalog and really didn't know much beyond that. He said they'd have to get one of those trucks in first before they'd know for sure. I guess the only reason I'm wanting a dual exhaust at this point is to add a little more of a growl to it and deepen the exhaust tone without being too obnoxious. Corsa seems to be good at that sort of thing.

I did some checking though and confirmed that the Sierra Denali 6.2L engine (at least for the 2008 model) does NOT use the same exhaust system as the 2009 Silverado withthe 6.2L. There must be at least some minor changes, because my '09 is a FlexFuel capable engine whereas the '08 trucks were not. So, at any rate, I'll keep harassing Corsa until they come out with something. :) It can't be too difficult anyway, but I don't want to just cobble something cheap on there with such a nice truck.

Thanks again everyone.
