Line Level Out For Sub?

Recommended Posts

On my 09 Silverado one could have gotten from the factory "premium" Bose stereo package that included a subwofer in the center console (or under the seat?) in addition to "upgraded speakers".

Question: Is there a line-level out and power source plug/wires for this presumably amplified/powered sub just dangling around up under the dash and coming from the standard head unit waiting to be plugged into, or was there a different head unit with that premium system?

TIA

have no idea, but if not, i have this product installed in my '05's console under the cup holder.

I checked peripheral's website and couldn't find this specific part.

It looks like they've modified it for vehicle-specific applications. It comes w/ an adapter that connect to the radio to get the signal. Mine was purchased in '05 so I assume now they may have quit making the universal type.

Here's the link for what I found on their current website.

If you get the universal type like mine, as you may or may not see in the pics, its connected to the rear speaker output wire running through the console going to the bose amp.

I used this from PAC audio, plug and play.

Part number: AOEM-GM1416

Instead of the PAC adapter would the MTX Re-Q be better? The MTX suppose to enhance the bass when using a factory radio.

I went PAC for a few reasons:

1. 2 outputs

2. individual gain controls for all 4 connections

3. full level outputs, i'm not planning on stopping at just a sub and amp.

Wow, this is good information. I haven't monkeyed with stereo stuff in a couple of decades, and needless to say, things have changed :nono:

What I want to do with my current stock system is make it at least as good as my 07 Tahoes factory upgraded system-

1) keep the stock head unit. Are the plugs accessible without removing it?

2) add a sub- while I have a center console, I think I saw elsewhere the sub won't fit there as it is a different console than those with the factory upgrade. I don't want to sacrifice much space in the back, so I was thinking of a powered,tube-type sub? Or can I get close to those frequencies with good replacement rears??

3) add minimal amp (under the passenger seat?) primarily for the front speakers, but for the rears also if no sub is opted.

4)replace the front door speakers, maybe the pillars' too?

I realize that I'm opening a big can of worms here, and I'm very fearful of getting an unbalanced/mismatched end result that costed too much!

Does anyone have a schematic of what I might be doing?? I'm still trying to determine is this is within my skill set and comprehendable to me!

Thanks!!

You have to remove the radio to make the connections. It not a hard job, grab the dash with your finger nails and pull. It sounds like hell when the clips release but you aren't breaking anything.

Heres some pics of the box I built myself. If you look at subthump boxes you'll see my inspiration. If you mount a amp under that passenger seat, just make sure there is no intereference with any of the electronics under there.

My amp is a 2 or 1 channel amp, i just run the 10 kicker sub.
