Looking For A Picture...

I'm trying to bite the bullet and get 285's (or possibly 305's) BFG A/T's, but before I do, I wanted to see if anyone was running these...and if they had pictures of what they look like (side view). I just want to see how much more they fill up the wells without a lift---just leveled out. I know that's a pretty specific request, but if anybody has any thoughts or comments, let me know.

thanks!

that look is legit. if i've read my specs right, the tires aren't too much taller---just the sidewall has that illusion. i've run bfg's a/t's before on my xterra and it was a game-changer as far as off-road performance. I just ordered rear airbags---do you think that even keeping the minimum pressure will get me a slight lift in the rear? not much...but possibly .5 - 1 inch?

Mark: that second picture is unreal. that's what i want my all-terrain to look like. thanks to you and Seth

Any thoughts on if 285's will fit without a level kit?

from what i've read, you'll experience a little rubbing in the front, but they should fit. i've got the rough country lower strut spacers...makes the truck look like an HD IMO.

a note to remember.....the 285 65 18 bfg is a 10ply load e rated tire.....they will ride rough, but then again its a truck

the tire is overall an inch taller, which equals a half inch in ride height increase

Mark, I echo the compliments on your truck pics. Looks rugged as hell. I am contemplating a trade in of mine for a crew cab (all terrain) with a 6.2 if i can find one without the leather (way more than i am loking to spend). But if i do keep mine I am definately leveling out the front and getting an inch out back. looking tough bro..

I like the brushguard on your's Jonathan. white was my second choice lol. right now I'm in the Outer banks. Glad to say the truck has pereformed admirably and didn't even need 4wd to get over the dunes my house. sugar sand at 10-20mph still no problem. lot's of bouncin pretty high to (underestimated the dips) Should have saw the other guys buried up to their axles and I am just cruising by in amazement! 1 excursion and a new F150 platinum edition. lowered psi to 18, then increased to 22 then to 29-30 and this truck just refuses to be stopped.

Mark did you notice a big off road difference with the new BFG's?

Jonathan how do you like the tires on here now?

in a way i dont want the avalanche to come in because i will miss my all terrain, but on the other hand i need a crew cab and the deal was too sweet to pass up

Trust me---there's something about the All-Terrain that is unmatched. The Rancho shocks on it definitely reminds me of the Z71's of the past---before it was just a trim package. Granted, you can just part-out all the options...it just seems tighter from the factory. The tires on there right now suit me just fine. They're the stock P265s---and even in some slick clay and Alabama swamp mud---it's done terrific. I want more ground clearance but don't want to spend the $ for lifts or risk the warranty. I took off the front air dam---and figure another inch or two from tires will sit it up high enough. The stock tires on there right now still slip every now and then in 2WD---something that my BFG's on my Xterra never did---and that was a 5-speed 2WD truck! That bull-bar was definitely a good choice. Black on white w/ a little chrome accent is my favorite look.

I know the higher load range will be a slight issue---but w/the Rancho's--it should be marginal.

Does anybody know/understand what I was talking about with the Airbags? Will I see any rear lift? It's the Air-Lift Air Springs.

You're going to notice a difference with the load range E tire. The truck is going to ride rough over bumps, and you'll feel every bump/hole/dip in the road 3x as much. Food for thought. I loved the way my 285's looked, and they felt great when towing, but I drive the truck every day, and I couldn't stand it. I went back to normal 4-ply tires (275/65/18 Bridgestones), and I'm glad I did. I have a levelling kit on mine, with a taller block in the rear, and with the 275's it still looks real good. They're a tad taller than the factory 265's. Something to look in to, if you don't want to deal with the 10-ply tire. I can send you some pics of mine tomorrow when it's light outside and I find my camera.

If you put air bags on your truck, and keep air in them for daily driving, you're going to be essentially adding spring rate to your rear. It'll make it a lot stiffer, and you'll get a lot of bounce when you hit bumps. They're only meant as an aid to keep your suspension from compressing too far when loaded down, and to help the truck level out. That way your headlights aren't pointing to space when you're towing or hauling something heavy. They're not made to lift the rear of your truck when unloaded.

I gotcha---I just was seeing if deflated, the fact that they were simply on there or maintaining 5 PSI would be flex the springs even a half inch or so.

I'm seriously considering the 275---I just know as soon as I do, I'm going to be kicking myself for not going bigger.

I put a used set of 275's on my truck (put a hole in the sidewall of the stock 265s) and there is about a half mph differance in the speedo. They are alittle wider and slightly taller.....i havnt decided on weather or not to go bigger when i replace these, that is if i dont go to a 17 in wheel. There just arent as many choices in the 18in tires and they deffinetly cost more....to each his own i guess, but i for sure wont put 265's back on it!

What kind of tires were your 275's?
