Nnbs Brake Light Switch

Back in April 09' I ordered the updated brake light switch for my 2008 1500. The dealer said they would have it in within the next couple days, and would call me when I could pick it up. Now it's September, the dealer said GM stopped making these switches due to money issues, then they said that the supplier GM was using had a tooling problem and all the new switches that were made were incorrect, and had to be re done. They say by the end of September I should have my brake light switch.

Does anybody have any kind of inside info on this damn thing? I have been waiting patiently for the past five months, but this is BS. How hard is it to get a friggin $12.00

part?

If anybody has any info on where I could get the updated brake light switch, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you. Been waiting a couple months for this thing. Who knows if GM will ever get the thing back into production. I just wonder what they are doing with all these trucks they have been building.

Someone at GM is full of shit, I can't get one on warranty, I can't buy one, but they can build trucks with them?

If your so inclined and are handy with a wrench, I suggest fixing the stock switch yourself. I installed the "new" switch and still had issues with the lights going off while foot was still on the brake. There is a thread somewhere on here on how to modify your stock switch to work better. It involves taking the switch out, opening it up and clipping the spring inside there down a bit. Worked for me...

1 guy said now it's too sensative. I think the thread with pictures is from an 800. I may cut the spring down if GM wants to continue to blow us off.

Any parts guy at any dealer should be able to contact GM's expediting contact to inquire the status on a back-ordered part and when stock is expected, assuming he's not a retard, inexperienced, or lazy. Unfortunately, that is too often the case. If it's a supplier issue, then at least he would find that out. Leaving a customer in limbo without a fair explanation is unprofessional!

When stock does become available, the critical/emergency backorders are filled first, then the stock backorders based on first placed, first filled. If the parts are in limited supply, could be, your dealer is just too far down the list. You could ask if critical (or "air") would make a difference and if there's any freight charge.

The only reason I updated my switch was for towing where I could feel the trailer brakes release prematurely with a light brake pedal effort in the mountains and feeling the trailer suddenly pushing you. Otherwise, I probably would never have noticed it.

When I was dealing with the local dealer for a purchase of the switch, the available date kept changing, once a week it would change. They would call up some part supply automated system and have it on speaker and I'd hear the new date.
