New 09 Sierra

I recently gave up my 1994 K1500 which was bulletproof in lieu of new 09 sierra 4wd ext cab.

Does anyone know what type of oil comes in the 5.3 from the factory is it synthetic blend?

I know 5w-30 is recommended but can 10w-30 be used in the AFM engines without issues?

Also I have a manual HVAC system control head in the new 09,Is it normal for the control head to always default to the recirc door being open on a new key cycle? Bugs me that I always have to close the recirc door by pressing the button to the far right every time i drive it after shutting it off.

Can someone with a manual Hvac system verify if this is a normal operating chracteristic?

Trying to avoid a stop to the dealer if its normal.

I'm not sure on the brand, but you can run 10W-30. Why do you want to though?

Recirculate is the normal default because the truck will tend to cool down faster this way.

I have the auto a/c and it defaults like you described. It's annoying, but normal. My wife especially enjoys this wonderful feature when we get behind something belching a lot of smoke :jester:

Just want to know if factory starts it off using synthetic oil if so will keep it that way.

I have always had good luck using 10w30 in other truck no problems, when the 5w30 gets hot its like water scary thin to me....But Im old school I guess...

The Hvac door default open, man gonna be cold alright can't wait till winter....

I always use to run 10w-30 also, until I started doing some research about oils. 10w-30 and 5w-30 should be basically the same warm both should be basically the viscosity of a 30 weight oil. The 5 and 10 are the cold numbers. A lot of debate has gone on about actually we should be running a 0w-30

As far as the HVAC door goes. It should warm up faster in the winter too. It's going to start circulating the warm air that the car is putting out as soon as it is blowing slight warm it will warm up quicker. As opposed to out door air which will still be just as cold.

It's not just the new trucks. I had an '04 Mailbu before my Silverado and it was the same way. I complained to the dealer but they couldn't tell me anything other than the other cars did it. I called the customer support line and they told me it was engineered to work that way and there was nothing that could be done about it.

I myself complain about the smoke, diesel/bus exhaust, skunk or other dead animals, etc too. :jester:

It's actually even odder than that. If recirc is turned on and the fan is on, the A/C compressor kicks on. I'm sure it has to do with people like my wife who turn on recirc on a rainy day and then complain about foggy windows. Me... I'd rather have full control and for it to stay where I put it last.
