Towing Mirrors

Incase anybody was wondering, because I was. I was wanting to change out my small mirrors with a set of towing mirrors. My stock mirrors were power, heated, and no turn signal. So I bought a pair of used factory mirrors off of ebay, with power, heated, and the intergrated turn signal. I searched just about all the forums out there for an answer. I found that there was alot of people out there that wanted to do the same thing. I read where some were plug and play, dealers saying that it was not possible because the wires did not exist, some saying you had to run wires for it to work, and so on and so on. I pluged the mirrors in where the old mirror was on the door handle switch and to my suprise, everything worked like it was suppose to, even the turn signal! I couldn't believe how easy it was. Keep in mind that these are manual fold and manual extend towing mirrors. So there you have it, if you been wanting to do this, it's simple! Hope this helps if anyone else was wanting to do this for the 03-07 classic! :jester:

Very nice. What I would like to do is find manual extenders like that for my 94 GMC 2500 (surely the turn signal won't be an option, nor heated either, since there's no power at all on the ones I have).

Do you think a mirror like that, with turn signal, would work on my 02 1500? (it's a stock, heated, power)

You can get these mirrors without the power options. The only thing that is powered on mine is the mirror itself. I have the manual extend and manual fold, I'm not sure that you can even get them were everything is powered?I think that only the 03 and up, had the turn signal in the mirror. I was just going to splice into the signal wires under my steering column using t-tap connectors and an inline fuse if my didn't have the turn signals wires already there!

Yes, I believe you are correct, only 03 and up had the signal in the mirror. I wonder, if I got a pair just like that, and just didn't hook up the signal wire, if it would work with my power and heated part of my factory 02 wiring. Even better, if I could determine that the actual mounting "footprint" and bolt pattern is the same on these mirrors as what's on an 02 truck, and a 94 model, that would be even better. Any idea on that?

The '99-'02 uses a different connector on the mirror harness. You would need a schematic to determine which wire does what, and then hard wire them to the harness on the truck. Or, you could snag a couple connectors from a junk yard and just swap connectors. I just installed regular power mirrors from an '03 onto my '01, different connectors. My pass. side door is wired for power mirrors, driver's side is not. So, I'm searching for a driver's door harness so I can upgrade to power mirrors.
