Installing Assist Steps?

So, how hard is it to install the OEM 6 inch oval assist steps on a 2009 Sierra? I ordered a set from my dealer today, but the guy at the dealership said I probably didn't want to try and install them myself. He said they were easily a two hour install and "more complicated than I thought". I'm certainly no mechanic, but isn't this pretty much a "bolt-on" job? Is there something I'm missing?

Very easy install. Doesnt take much more than half an hour to install.

I did them myself in my garage. Just needed a socket wrench iirc. Biggest hassle is holding them up to get the holes lined up. Luckily I have a good beer gut for just such a use! :jester: If you can use a socket wrench, you can dooo eeeet!!

Thanks Guys! You know I don't mind if the dealership wants to make money; they're a business, and I want them around (not a lot of choices around here). I do, however, dislike it when they insult my intelligence. If he would have said "hey, it's an easy install, I'll do it for $30", I would have said "great, do it - it's not worth the hassle for me to climb under there". However, now I'm determined to do it myself - if only to piss him off....

It is very easy. Once you get a bolt in half way on one end you can hang the other end up on the rocker to keep things sorta ligned up. Or utilize a "monkey" friend to hold things while you go to the other end. That is unless you have the belly-helper-device. They spec a surprisingly large torque value for the bolts that you might not be able to guesstimate, so finish with that wrench. Lastly, after several thousand miles retorque the bolts, esp on the drivers side front that is used the most.
