Playing Mp3's

So, I was a little disappointed to discover that my new 2006 Sierra (non-Bose) does not play MP3s and has no Aux-in for an MP3 player.

What would be my best solution? I actually have a brand new Clarion head unit, but what else would I need???

- install kits?

- wiring harness adapters? - I have steering wheel controls

I apologize for the "shot-gun" approach of a question, but I'm not sure what to ask.

Thanks.

If you have the stock H/U you should have a AUX button on it which can be used to connect to an MP3 player. Since you have the Clarion you don't need it but heres somethings to look out for.

1. You'll need a bypass box if you want to keep your door/warning chimes, cost $200

2. You can get a wireing harness (sits inbetween your stock wiring harness and your Clarion). You don't need one but it makes the install much easier.

3. Call Crutchfield an install kit and ask them for a diagram, this will make life so much easer.

Hope this helps.

A couple of options. You can get a harness that allows you to keep your factory radio and have full control of an ipod.

Or my suggestion would be to add the clarion head unit and get this wire harness. It allows you to keep your door chimes and warning chimes. I found this unit at my local walmart for $35. Very easy to hook up. Everthing is labeled and all you have to do is crimp wires to the radio harness. You would also need a dash trim kit. Usually run from $10 to $20. You would also most likely need a radio wire adapter to keep fm radio.

Does your clarion have an aux jack? On the back of my alpine I have a serial port that I was able to an ipod plug for it. It just clips right in and I have it hanging down under the dash by the floor.

Yes, the head unit has the "AUX" button, but no input - at least none that I can find. Do I need some form of harness for this? And where would it connect?

I'll most likely get in touch with Crutchfield at some point as well and see what my options are.

Thanks.

Not quite sure I follow this. What does this harness do?

Yes, it has the "AUX IN" jack as well as the ability to play MP3 CDR/CDRW. Eventually, I think I'll go this way, I was just wondering it there was a simpler thing I could do in the meantime.

Also, is there a good write-up on this site for dash bezel / head unit removal? Just wondering how easy it is.

Thanks.

Well the easiest thing to do is get an fm transmitter. There as cheap as $10. You plug it into your ipod, discman or anything that has an aux jack. All you have to do is set the same station on your radio (usually a frequency that is not used) and set the fm transmitter to that and your good to go.

Thats What I've used in the car and it works great.

Yes, I've used this as well. My cell phone actually has a built-in FM transmitter which works OK, but I don't have one for my MP3 player. Just one more thing to plug in I guess...
